Hi everyone! This is Tammy, and I’m excited to share another Art Journal Page with you all.
As you have possibly worked out by now, I adore bold colors, and for me art journaling is about exploring and expressing my thoughts. I love that color can support the message, adding mood and emotion.
You can definitely see the colors have added to the drama and bold message. I love that stencils can be used in the same way, they contribute to the ‘feel’ of the page, the depth.
TCW provided me with some amazing goodies to play with, but the opinions and creations are my own.
Let’s take a look at how this art journal came to be……
I began by adding a layer of TCW9001 White Gesso to my large Dylusions Art Journal using a paintbrush. This stuff is fabulous!! I have used so many gesso’s but this one would have to be my fave – so creamy and smooth. It’s like clouds!
Once dry, I selected my paint colors. I had already selected an image for this page of a brave warrior woman so I went with bold colors. I began by adding a little of Dylusions ‘After Midnight’ and Dina Wakley ‘Blackberry’. I applied with a brush quite randomly, keeping the centre area blank.
Whilst the paint is wet, I selected one of my fave stencils TCW780 Botanical Dream in 12×12. I lay it on top, and then using a wet baby wipe I rubbed over the stencil to remove some of the paint.
Now lift up the stencil and see the magic …….
Next I repeated this process adding some Dylusions paint in ‘Lemon Drop’ and ‘Postbox Red’. For the stencil I used TCW876 Screen View, as I like the bold geometric shapes.
At this point I felt the colors were too bright and I needed some depth so I added Dina Wakley ‘Magenta’.
Now it’s time to add the image. For this I selected one of the awesome images by Michelle Grant Designs. She draws amazing images which are available to purchase as a download – so you can print them off in the size you need and use them in your art. I simply trim around the edges and adhere it using TCW9045 Matte Gel Medium. I apply it with a silicone brush to both the journal page and the reverse of the image. Once it is in place, I then add some over the top to seal it.
Now it’s time to make that image look like it’s not just ‘plonked’ onto the page – it needs to look embedded. To do this I add some paint to the edges of the image to create some depth and shadows.
To go with the dramatic feel, I decided to add TCW9002 Black Gesso on top of the page using TCW902 Fantangle in 12×12. I lay the stencil over the page and using a dry baby wipe, I rubbed the gesso through the stencil, leaving some bold dramatic lines.
I then added TCW9002 Black Gesso around the edges of the page, and also added flicks of it over the page.
The final steps – I added a title from the Michelle Grant ‘Warrior’ collection using TCW9045 Matte Gel Medium, and then scribbled around the edges once dry.
I also used markers and paint to color-in the image.
I love the dramatic boldness of this page – so much fun to create!! I hope I have inspired you to be a little bold in your next creation…..
Don’t forget to use #tcwstencillove when sharing your creations using TCW goodies as we love to see them!
Until next time
