Striking Cards

Hi creative folk, it’s Tammy (aka Tambarambaa) here today to share my latest colorful project using the fabulous TCW Stencils! This one features a couple of striking cards, and the best thing about them, besides showing the person you give them to how much you care, is that they are super relaxing to do. So you can create and look after your wellbeing at the same time! And then pass that care onto others. Win Win!

Two bright colored floral cards, with black backgrounds and bold funky colors

TCW has provided me with some amazing products to play with, but the art and opinions are mine.

Two floral cards created using The Crafter's Workshop stencils and lots of bright colors with a black background.

For these cards, I began with a piece of the TCW9051 Watercolour paper, and trimmed this into quarters.

Using two of these, I lay stencil TCW927 Cactus Dahlia over the top, making sure it was to the side of the paper, and not completely centered. I used a little washi tape to hold the stencil in place.

Then using a lead pencil, I traced around the edges. I then filled this in with a fine black waterproof pen.

Then I begin to color these images in. You could use whatever you choose here, I selected brush paint pen markers by Life of Colour. I love the way these blend. Selecting the colors, and blending them together, is just so relaxing. My kind of mindfulness!

Step by steps - laying down a stencil and then tracing the shapes with a pencil, then going over this with a pen and adding color with brush paint pens.

Once the flower is all colored in, I used a thick black paint pen to go around all the edges, and then filled in the background by painting on TCW9002 Black Gesso.

I repeated the same process using stencil TCW147 Flower Frenzy, and selecting a few flowers to trace here and there, making sure some came off the card.

Filling in the black edges of the stenciled shape and then adding black gesso to the background

Once the black gesso is dry – which happens really quickly, I doodled some extra details such as spots and borders using a white paint pen, and I also added some extra doodly details with the fine black pen too. So relaxing, and a great thing to do after a long day at work!

Adding a few doodles to the cards with white and black pens.

So happy with how they look!

Now it’s time to add a sentiment, and to adhere them to a white card.

Card 1 - A large single flower

I just love the way the black and the white makes those colours pop. Cannot wait to pass these onto someone and make their day!

Card 2 - three smaller floral shapes

TCW has so many stencils, that could be used this way – just a bit of tracing creates gorgeous images to play with. Take a look at your stencils……which ones would look amazing using these technique? Hint – the answer is ALL of them. Lol.

Thanks so much for stopping by, I hope these have inspired you. Why not set aside 20 minutes in your day for some coloring-mindfulness? It really does have a positive impact on your wellbeing.
