Art Journal Page

Hi there creatives, Tammy (aka Tambarambaa) here to share my latest colorful Art Journal Page.

This one has lots of grunge and loads of color…….

TCW provided me with some amazing goodies to play with but the art and ideas are solely mine.

So let’s get started so you can play along too…..

I applied a coat of TCW9001 White Gesso to my Art Journal page as a base to layer everything on. I then grabbed some of my favorite bright paint colors and applied these to the page in patches using my fingers to spread the paint around. Finger painting is so much fun!

I then selected a couple of my fave NEW stencils – TCW966 Marakesh and TCW961 Basketweave and another of my faves TCW945 Starflower Net and lay these down in small sections over my page, and again using the same selected colors, I sponged paint through the stencil using a make-up sponge.

At this stage it looks a bit of a mess – that’s ok, stay with me……this is just a layer.

Next I grab another new stencil TCW964 Encircled, and sponge some deep navy through one of the sections – I chose that cute little leopard print area.

Now it’s time to add the next layer. NOW this part might be scary!!! But it’s the part that pulls this background together.

I sponge TCW9002 Black Gesso through this gorgeous geometric stencil TCW969 Illusions over parts of the background, again using a make-up sponge. I also swipe black gesso around the edges of the page and using a spatula, I smear larger sections of the black gesso in areas too. EEEEEEEKKK!!

Some of the sections where the stencil layers are peeking through underneath are just beautiful. I love that they are different everytime, it’s part of the magic, you never quite know what you will get.

Now I need a focal point, so I use these images that I drew by hand (these are available as a digital download with a stack full of other handdrawn images by me HERE). I cut them out and adhere them in a cluster onto my background, adding a fun quote (also in pack), and adding some plaint blobs here and there too.

I then wanted to keep going with that painty feel, so this time I used the circular paint rings section from TCW964 Encircled – sponging black gesso with a sponge in a few spots on page.

Then it’s just finishing touches which include some white marks with a paint pen.

Let’s take a closer look at a those stencils peeking through…..

Absolutely beautiful. Grungy yet colorful.

Finished page - quote reads you are the artist of your life, don't give the paintbrush to anyone else.

Thanks for popping over here today and I hope it has inspired you to throw some color and stencils around.

Much love,
