Mixed Media Journal

Good morning. Nicole here with a fun mixed media tutorial. I received the Heartfelt Journal from Eileen Hull to play with and I must say… I had so much fun making something different. By the time I finished putting this journal together I decided I needed the dies and Big Shot Pro. Seriously, though… there are so many possibilities when it comes to Sizzix dies. I’m totally hooked.

Disclaimer: “The Crafter’s Workshop provided me with product to create this project. The opinions I share are solely my own.

To begin, I used acrylic paint to paint the outside covers a lime green and lilac color.

Next, I used Clear Modeling Paste and the TCW935 Secret Garden stencil to create the patterns on both pages. I decided to use modeling paste, rather than ink because I really like how much texture you can get with modeling paste. It looks so good!

Once the modeling paste was completely dry, I used a small paint brush and acrylic paints to color over the modeling paste.

Next, I painted the labels and latches for the journal. Then, I let the paint sit for about an hour to dry before I used a strong double-sided tape and Matte Gel to clue the pieces together. I used a paintbrush to splash White Gesso all over the cover to add some white.

Overall, I am very pleased with how this turned out! I was totally going for a funky look… I added a label to the inside and the charms on the outside. This journal fits two travel notebooks, nicely.

What do you think? Super cute, right!? Thank you so much for visiting today!
