DIY Gel Plate Embellishments: “Gelly Embellies”

Love embellishments? Make your own with gel plates, scrap mini embellishments and even those last few stickers on that sticker sheet you’ve had for more than a few years!

The Crafter’s Workshop provided me with some product to create this project. The opinions I share are solely my own.

For the base of my embellishments, I gel printed some different demi shapes from the Gel Press Faith Impressions Kit onto a few sheets of white Cardstock with Ranger’s Dylusions acrylic paints and a mini brayer. I mounted the gel plates onto an acrylic block for easy printing.

Using a cosmetic sponge or blending tool, I applied a layer of paint through a 6×6 stencil using the same design on each of the shapes. (Featured here is the new TCW935 Secret Garden Stencil) The new Dylusions shimmer paints work great for this as they are super opaque and provide an extra layer of glam to each demi print.

For each of the shapes, I stenciled over each one using different contrasting colors of paint over the gel prints (black is my favorite though!)

Stencils used:

Once dried, I flicked on layers of watered down black, gold and white paint splatters with a small brush. Basic neutral colors on top help tie the colors together. Next, I cut out each shape.

To complete the embellishments, I added small die cuts and a plethora of stickers to the shapes. This is great way to use up those sticker sheets and random leftover paper pieces that have been hoarded away for a bit. I added some doodle borders around a few of the shapes using silver, gold, white and black gel pens.

What can you do with these? Anything you like! Pop them on a card/envelope set, sneak them in your kiddos lunch box, teacher notes, ATC cards, use them for scrapbooking or even just collect them in an art journal! Whatever you want! They’re just fun to make!
