Dreamsicle Sorbet: Rainbow Clouds Art Journal Process

Dreamsicle Sorbet: Rainbow Clouds Art Journal by Renae Davis

Clouds! Who doesn’t love clouds?! If I could only have ONE single stencil in my stash- TCW2308 Clouds Slimline Stencil would be THE ONE. It’s a product you didn’t know you needed until you see it and then you KNOW.

This blog post is dedicated to one, super easy and gorgeous technique of how to create rainbow ombre ink clouds with just ink pads.

The Crafter’s Workshop provided me with some product to create this project. The opinions I share are solely my own.

Using a beauty blender brush (from the dollar store), I thoroughly blended Distress Oxide Ink over one edge of TCW2308 Clouds Slimline Stencil onto the surface of my art journal page. Starting on top of the stencil, in a swirling motion, blending the heaviest amount of ink on the edge of the stencil and then blending lightly upward towards the top of the page.

I’ve linked a video down below to better show this process.

For the second row, rotate the stencil in a different direction. Repeat the same process as above while being sure to lightly blend completely upward to the previous color. The white of the clouds should be at a bare minimum in order to achieve an ombre look and feel to the page.

Continue working down the page with different colors and different rotations of the stencil. In between blending colors, you should clean off the stencil with a dry cloth to prevent color contamination blending of the colors.

I used the following colors of Distress Oxide Ink pads for this page: Spun Sugar (redid with Picked Raspberry), Spiced Marmalade, Mustard Seed, Cracked Pistachio, Salty Ocean and Dusty Concord.

For the very bottom of the page, I lightly blended on the next and last color of Salty Ocean Distress Oxide Ink.

This part is completely optional… but I do think it adds some extra contrast for the clouds. I went back over the edge of the clouds, the darkest part near the stencil base, with different colored dye inks. The dye inks over the oxides inks blended better than just dye ink alone.

I watered down and splashed some TCW9012 Shimmery Goodness all over the page for added sparkle and shimmer.

Below are some gallery pictures of the finished art journal layout. Feel free to watch the video linked below to see the completed process.

I did make a video process of the page (the left page) opposite of the tutorial page (the right page) and how I tied the two pages together.
