Hi everyone, Heidi here, today I would like to show you how you can create these fun masculine birthday cards using only a few supplies!

Step 1:

Since I will create a set of two cards each step will be taken twice. I started my project by die cutting two panels each two sizes smaller then my card base. Then I temporarily adhered my stencil of choice over the panel and applied some Nuvo Expanding Mousse over the stencil using a palette knife. For today’s project I choose a The Crafter’s Workshop stencil called “Orb Mandala” (TCW873s).

I love how versatile this mandala stencil design is!

Personally I like to take some of the Expanding mousse out of the jar and mix it with itself on my glass work surface until the consistency is a bit more creamy, this will make it easier to apply over the stencil and adhere better to the card panel. For today’s project I choose the colours “Bramley Apple” and “Boatyard Blue”. When you mix these colours you can create a gorgeous turquoise as well!

Step 2:

I applied each colour separately, then removed the stencil and washed it in the sink.

Step 3:

Next I heated the Expanding Mousse with my heat tool, this will change the texture and the colour. This is what my background panels look like now.

Step 4:

Time to work on the other components for my cards: I printed some digital images by Doctor Digi onto alcohol marker friendly paper (“Duncan Disorderly” and “Gardening Gus”) and coloured the images using my Spectrum Noir Illustrator alcohol markers in the following colours: CR1, TN2, BT1, DG1, DG4, PP3, DR2, DR5, DR7, CT2, CR5, BG2, TN4, TN6, TN8 and EB8. I used the same colours on both images.

When the colouring was done I added some highlights using a white Sakura Gelly Roll pen, I love how adding these white highlights makes the image come to life.

After colouring the images I fussy cut them using my scissors and for the inner parts that I can’t reach with my scissors I used a K30 Rite-Cut Excel Blade Knife.

Step 5:

Now it’s time to put my cards together: I die cut a slightly larger rectangle mat for each background panel using some matching dark red card stock from my stash. These two panels I adhered together using liquid glue and then I adhered this combination to a white card base.

For my sentiment I choose one of the sentiments from the Clearly Besotted “Say What?” stamp set. I stamped onto black card stock using VersaMark ink (this is a sticky clear ink) and then I heat embossed using white embossing powder. Make sure that you have used an anti-static powder tool on the black card stock before stamping so that the embossing powder will only adhere to the sticky ink and not to other places (where your fingers have been for example). Then I used a banner die to cut the banner shape from the sentiment.

To finish the card I now only have to adhere the coloured image and the banner sentiment to my card front using one millimetre thick foam tape.
