Happy New Year!
I wish everyone a happy and healthy one full of art supplies!
Today I’m excited to show you one of my favorite techniques to use with TCW Gel Medium Gloss. I’m not a gloss fan but using this technique I find I’m always reaching for it. Can you tell what the technique is in this picture?
My supplies for today’s project are TCW Gel Medium Gloss, 12×12 Motif stencil (TCW581), 6×6 Circle Explosion stencil (TCW278), Heavyweight Yupo, Liquitex Fluorescent Soft Body Acrylic Paint, spray bottle of water, palette knife, Golden Fluid Acrylics in Paynes Gray, Carbon Black, Golden High Flow Acrylics in Turquoise, Phthalo Blue, India Ink Black and Turquoise.
On the Yupo I added the Motif stencil with fluorescent paint and let it dry.
When it dried I lined the stencil back on the Yupo and added Gel Medium through it.
The gel medium looks white when it’s wet but wait until you see it dry!
It’s crystal clear.
Once the gel medium was dry I used a brayer and started to add color – India Ink in black and turquoise.
I continued to use the brayer to add more ink.
When I create a painting I just go with what I’m thinking.
So I decided to spray water on it and let the inks flow.
While the paint and inks are wet I used the brayer again.
No rhyme or reason it just felt right.
I let it dry a little and then added Paynes Gray.
I let the painting completely dry and then added spots with the Circle Explosion Stencil and used a baby wipe to take some of the paint off.
I decided I wanted to see a little more bright colors so I used the end of a paint brush and added more fluorescent paint colors.
I love words and scribbles so I decided to add what was in my head – “Choose the Light Always”
I wrote it twice in white and turquoise.
Here is it finished.
I hope you enjoyed my tutorial.
