January seems to be the month to get organized! For creatives, that can mean piles of art and craft supplies that need to find a home. I thought it would be fun to do a little painting while making a canvas pouch to store some of my pencils.

The Crafter’s Workshop provided me with some product to create this project. This post also contains affiliate links. The opinions I share are solely my own.

In order to make it easier to create the size pouch I wanted, I used one of these canvas sheets from Fredrix. That way the only cutting I needed to do was to cut it in half before I sewed it up.

I started off the background by painting the entire canvas with watered down yellow acrylic paint. I then lay the 12×12 Square Scrolls stencil on top of the wet paint and wiped off through the stencil with a paper towel.

The next layer was to spray green paint through the 12×12 Hex Flowers stencil. When that layer dried, I stamped some circles with a hand carved stamp and black ink, and then added a bunch of circles with bright pink paint.

A bit of white spray paint muted down the background a bit. A swirl design taken from the 12×12 Impressions stencil created a pop of turquoise to the pink circles. I also drew a few loose marks with a white paint pen.

The final layers included applying a dark blue pattern by stenciling through a piece of joint tape; adding white acrylic paint splatters; and creating drips of blue ink from the top and bottom of the canvas. Once all the layers where dry, I cut the canvas in half to get it ready to sew together.

I sewed on a black zipper and then sewed the pouch closed. I love making art functional! The canvas sheets make it really handy to create these pouches and they have a ton of uses to get my supplies organized.
