Handmade Cards just because…

Hello creative TCW people!

Tammy (aka Tambarambaa) here today to share a couple more handmade cards.

These ones are super easy and a lovely way to make someone’s day. I designed these ones to be for any occasion, not just birthdays. Why not send someone a handmade ‘just because’ card, it will absolutely brighten their day. , and we all need some joy and light in our lives.

TCW provided me with some awesome goodies to play with, but the art and the opinions are my own.

Let’s take a look at these in a little more detail, so you can create your own.

For Card 1, I used a lime, green and aqua color palette. Love these soothing, calming colors together.

I decided to use Distress Oxides for this. I selected ‘twisted citron’, ‘cracked pistachio’, ‘peacock feathers’ and ‘mermaid lagoon’.

I’ve also been admiring that NEW stencil TCW962 Bouquet Bliss and hadn’t taken it for a spin yet, so today was the day! I laid it down on some A4 white smooth cardstock, and then using a blending tool, I began adding sections of colors. This part is really relaxing, as the colors blend together, creating new tones, and as you are using analogous colors (colors next to each other on the color wheel), you get different shades and NO MUD!

You can take the color out past the edges of the stencil, as we will trim this up later.

Now lift up the stencil and admire all those gorgeous shades!

I then repeated this process using some warm colors. Again these colors are analogous, and sit next to each other on the color wheel, so blend together beautifully. For this one, I selected Distress Oxides in ‘wild honey’, ‘worn lipstick’ and ‘seedless preserves’.

For Card 2, I selected another NEW floral stencil, which has fast become a fave of mine TCW971 Framed Garden. I placed it next to what I’d just created and repeated the above process. I find it best to start with sections of the lightest color first, and then add the darker colors around this and on top of this (don’t forget we want to create a few new shades!)

repeating the above using oranges and pinks. The result when the stencil is lifted is gorgeous. Those beautiful shades of color against the white left by the stencil

Just love love love the results – so quick!

Time to turn them into cards.

For this step, I trimmed them into 5.5 inch squares. This get’s rid of the softer edges that occur, and gives you some lovely crisp edges.

Time for a card saying. As I wanted these to be neutral, I selected some quotes from the stamp set TCW2208 Precious Sentiments. I stamped these onto white cardstock using black archival ink, and then trimmed around the edges.

Both of these sayings lend themselves to occasions which are difficult, perhaps health issues or the loss of a loved one, or working through a difficult time in your life. What a perfect time to let someone know you are thinking of them.

adding quotes to the centers of each and trimming them down to card size

I placed these quotes onto the center of each card. I felt they got a little lost, so decided to add a border. To do this I simply blended some of the deeper color in each card onto cardstock, placed the quote over the top and then trimmed it so it left a border around the quote (sorry, I forgot to take a photo for you!)

I adhered these using foam squares, and then glued them to some 6×6 inch white blank cards.

I really love these, and will definitely be doing more of this. I hope you give it a go too – imagine how the recipient will feel when they receive these in the mail or on their doorstep!

I think they’d also make gorgeous tags or bookmarks.
