My Winter Face art journal spread

Happy Wednesday everyone! It’s getting chilly here in Southern Ontario, and that means snow is on it’s way! I do enjoy winter, but would rather be on a warm beach somewhere during these colder months! I tend to get a bit snarky when I am cooped inside too long! LOL! So, I made this little art journal spread for you today… I couldn’t resist playing with some new stencils and ColorSparx today!

Finished art journal spread using new stencils and ColorSparx.

The Crafter’s Workshop provided me with some product to create this project.

The opinions I share are solely my own.

The Crafter’s Workshop Product Used:

TCW9001 White Gesso

TCW945 StarFlower Net Stencil

TCW9058 ColorSparz Alpine

TCW940 X Trail Stencil

TCW9011 Matte Gel Medium

TCW9012 Shimmery Goodness

TCW9025 Plastic Palette Knife

I used an 8” x 8” journal for today’s spread. I first used TCW9001 White Gesso and a brush, and laid down a layer of this over my entire page. I used some teal colored acrylic paint and sponged this through TCW945 StarFlower Net Stencil   over the entire page as shown.

I used an 8" x 8" journal and covered the page with TCW9001 White Gesso using a brush. I then used TCW945 StarFlower Net Stencil and spread teal acrylic paint over the entire page. using a sponge.

I then used TCW9001 White Gesso and added a few shakes of Wisteria ColorSparx from TCW9058 ColorSparz Alpine  pack to the gesso. I mixed this up using TCW9025 Plastic Palette Knife. The Crafter’s Workshop has a huge selection of colored gesso, but I wanted a Wisteria color for my page and the ColorSparx does the trick.

I mixed some Wisteria ColorSparx from TCW9058 ColorSparz Alpine   into some gesso using TCW9025 Plastic Palette Knife.

I then brushed this colored gesso over the entire page.

Wisteria colored Gesso spread over the entire page using a brush.

While that was drying, I took 3 index cards and applied a layer of blue acrylic paint over them. I mixed up some of TCW9012 Shimmery Goodness and the Turquoise and Wisteria from TCW9058 ColorSparx Alpine pack and sprinkled some over the wet Shimmery Goodness that I layered over my blue index cards. I let this dry completely. Once dry, the colors tone down a bit. It looks like a hot mess right now, but it will turn out fantastic in the end! Lots of shimmery goodness to come!

I painted 3 index cards with blue acrylic paint, added a layer of TCW9012 Shimmery Goodness and the Turquoise and Wisteria from TCW9058 ColorSparx Alpine, mixed it up a bit and left it to dry.

I used TCW9012 Shimmery Goodness  and added a few drops of the Wisteria from TCW9058 ColorSparx Alpine pack directly to this and mixed it up with TCW9025 Plastic Palette Knife. I used a thin brush to add shimmery splatters to my art journal spread.

Once my index cards were dried, I outlined some X’s from TCW940 X Trail Stencil and cut these out. I applied them to my art journal spread using TCW9011 Matte Gel Medium in random areas.

I then used TCW940 X Trail Stencil and traced some X's onto my dried index cards. I applied them to my art journal spread using TCW9011 Matte Gel Medium.

I added my little girl, some washi tape and a sentiment… and voila.. done!

Finished art journal spread. I had added an image, some washi tape and a sentiment!

Look at all that shimmery goodness on the splatters and X’s! Perfect!!

  1. Helen, such a cute work of art! I love the way you pull in pictures of little girls. . I had written to you prior asking you where you did get these pictures and I Believe you said Pinterest, but I was wondering if you could help me in what I should write as a search for these? I tried doing it and was not successful at all in finding the cute little pictures you use. Thanks so much and stay warm💖
