Bohemian Bliss Mixed Media Art Journal

Bohemian Bliss Mixed Media Art Journal by Renae Davis

I picked up three bright, unique paint colors a while back (not that I need anymore but that’s never the point is it?) that I thought paired just beautifully together and I wanted to create a layout with them that involved an elephant. Inspiration can strike anywhere can’t it? Never ignore those urgings to try a new product!

The Crafter’s Workshop provided me with some product to create this project. The opinions I share are solely my own.

I penciled out a curvy line down at the bottom for the grass. The top half of the layout I blended pink, peach, fuchsia and purple Deco Art acrylics together without cleaning the paint brush in between colors to give it sort of a grungy look.

On the top half of the layout, I applied various colors of Dylusions Shimmer Paints through 6×6 TCW946 Petal Mandala Stencil with a sponge. The shimmer paints are very opaque and only require one layer to achieve shimmery goodness!

I repeated the TCW946 Petal Mandala Stencil pattern for the entire top half of the layout using various colors of Shimmer Paints (Bubblegum Pink, Crushed Grape, Fresh Lime, Calypso Teal).

For the bottom half of the layout, I applied a turquoise acrylic with a sponge through 6×6 TCW948 Framed Flowers Stencil repeating across the entire bottom of the spread. I then applied a layer of that same green color underneath on top of the stenciling to tone down the brightness of the turquoise.

Across the entire bottom of the layout, I applied two layers of black acrylic paint with a sponge through 12×12 TCW687 Positivity Stencil. I knew I was going to apply a layer of black paint across the top of the page and I wanted to even out the layout AND this page needed some rainbows on it somewhere!

For the rest of the layout, I added some collage feather pieces and stickers I had been hoarding in my stash for a while and some stamping and of course that big brave elephant. All the extras can be seen in the process video linked below.
