Hello there creative souls. Tammy here (aka Tambarambaa) to share my latest creation for TCW!
Owls are particularly close to my heart, and well you gotta have a night sky when talking about owls right? So here it is……..
![art journal page with moon and night sky and owl sitting on a branch](https://i0.wp.com/www.thecraftersworkshop.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/E63ADA65-7C74-4A9F-B90F-4895816AB12B-1024x1024.png?resize=1024%2C1024&ssl=1)
TCW provided me with some awesome goodies to play with, but the art and the opinions are my own.
![art journal page in deep blues, purples and pinks of an owl in the night sky](https://i0.wp.com/www.thecraftersworkshop.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/651028E2-DEE9-455E-8864-6CD618CDCA54-1024x768.jpg?resize=1024%2C768&ssl=1)
Let’s take a look at how it came to be……
I began by grabbing my Black Square Art Dylusions Journal – I knew I wanted to create a night sky so I grabbed stencil TCW926 Bubble Rebound and traced one of the larger circles on my page as a moon.
NOTE – if you don’t have a black journal you can simply add a layer of TCW9002 Black Gesso first – this has a lovely matte finish which allows you to add color on top.
![tracing a circle on a stencil for the moon](https://i0.wp.com/www.thecraftersworkshop.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/IMG_8669-768x1024.jpg?resize=576%2C768&ssl=1)
When beginning with a black background, I do love to use Dylusions paints as they pop against the black. I used ‘Crushed Grape’, ‘Polished Jade’, ‘After Midnight’, and ‘London Blue’ and applied them with a make-up sponge, blending them as I went. The sponged effect adds to the sky/cloud feel.
![adding deep purple, blue and aqua paint to the background using a sponge](https://i0.wp.com/www.thecraftersworkshop.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/1D2CCD48-23F6-40E2-B17D-09F88123962D-1024x768.jpg?resize=1024%2C768&ssl=1)
Next, time to do that moon, for this I used Dylusions ‘Bubblegum Pink’ and ‘Crushed Grape’. Much easier to blend this bit with your finger for a smoother feel.
![creating a pink and purple moon](https://i0.wp.com/www.thecraftersworkshop.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/1E6B12D4-D0EC-4DE2-9CD9-2CD0E7752FB7-1024x804.jpg?resize=768%2C603&ssl=1)
Now I grab stencil TCW248 Cubist and sponge the same colors as above through it different areas.
![sponging paint through a geometric square stencil for background interest](https://i0.wp.com/www.thecraftersworkshop.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/IMG_8672-1024x768.jpg?resize=768%2C576&ssl=1)
This adds some interest to the background.

Next I created a branch for the owl to sit upon, sweeping it from one side of the page to the other.
![painting in a branch that sweeps across the page](https://i0.wp.com/www.thecraftersworkshop.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/C65F002F-8881-4030-B09D-42949B825D4F-1024x697.jpg?resize=1024%2C697&ssl=1)
Now time to add some leaves to it. For this I used TCW831 Faithful Tree Stencil, and sponged some green paints in different shades through the leaves sections….

I got so lost in this process I forgot to take a photo when done, but you’ll see the results below.
Now I want to create a bit of a night mood, so I sponged black paint through TCW568 Moving Vines. I wanted them to look like trailing leaves….
![sponging black vines](https://i0.wp.com/www.thecraftersworkshop.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/IMG_8678-768x1024.jpg?resize=576%2C768&ssl=1)
I was creating this late at night, so at times the colors and lighting isn’t quite right…sorry.
![picture of owl added to background](https://i0.wp.com/www.thecraftersworkshop.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/E6912A26-1425-4EEF-8F08-2B95FA3C4A47-1024x520.jpg?resize=1024%2C520&ssl=1)
Now I adhere my cute little owl and a quote using TCW9011 Matte Gel Medium. These come from a digital pack designed by a friend of mine, Annette for Michelle Grant Designs. You will find the link to it HERE.

I love that this gel medium is Matte so it means I can add paint or pencils or watercolor on top!
Now I begin to add color to the little owl…..layer upon layer of paint and then finish all the details by using Life of Colour Paint Pens.
![close up of owl - colored with paint](https://i0.wp.com/www.thecraftersworkshop.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/BB794603-390E-4C61-BF93-151E7FE5AF7C-1024x768.jpg?resize=768%2C576&ssl=1)
I also add some stars to the background using TCW922 Ethereal Stencil. I wanted both shimmery white and gold stars.
![adding stars to background with a stencil and shimmery goodness for some sparkle](https://i0.wp.com/www.thecraftersworkshop.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/IMG_8681-945x1024.jpg?resize=709%2C768&ssl=1)
For the Shimmery White stars I added white paint to a bit of TCW9012 Shimmery Goodness and then applied this using a spatula through the stencil in random spots on the page.

For the gold stars, I used TCW9036 Champagne Gold Modeling Paste and swiped this through the stencil using a spatula.

A few flicks of paint, a few scribbles and it’s done!!
![quote over the moon reads sometimes you see things more clearly in the dark](https://i0.wp.com/www.thecraftersworkshop.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/7AF4D046-7358-454D-AE6A-B09296C627F5-1024x768.jpg?resize=768%2C576&ssl=1)
I really love the overall effect and hope you do too. It has a real moody, nighttime feel.
