Whoooo loves an Owl Art Journal Page

Hello there creative souls. Tammy here (aka Tambarambaa) to share my latest creation for TCW!

Owls are particularly close to my heart, and well you gotta have a night sky when talking about owls right? So here it is……..

TCW provided me with some awesome goodies to play with, but the art and the opinions are my own.

Let’s take a look at how it came to be……

I began by grabbing my Black Square Art Dylusions Journal – I knew I wanted to create a night sky so I grabbed stencil TCW926 Bubble Rebound and traced one of the larger circles on my page as a moon.

NOTE – if you don’t have a black journal you can simply add a layer of TCW9002 Black Gesso first – this has a lovely matte finish which allows you to add color on top.

When beginning with a black background, I do love to use Dylusions paints as they pop against the black. I used ‘Crushed Grape’, ‘Polished Jade’, ‘After Midnight’, and ‘London Blue’ and applied them with a make-up sponge, blending them as I went. The sponged effect adds to the sky/cloud feel.

Next, time to do that moon, for this I used Dylusions ‘Bubblegum Pink’ and ‘Crushed Grape’. Much easier to blend this bit with your finger for a smoother feel.

Now I grab stencil TCW248 Cubist and sponge the same colors as above through it different areas.

This adds some interest to the background.

Next I created a branch for the owl to sit upon, sweeping it from one side of the page to the other.

Now time to add some leaves to it. For this I used TCW831 Faithful Tree Stencil, and sponged some green paints in different shades through the leaves sections….

I got so lost in this process I forgot to take a photo when done, but you’ll see the results below.

Now I want to create a bit of a night mood, so I sponged black paint through TCW568 Moving Vines. I wanted them to look like trailing leaves….

I was creating this late at night, so at times the colors and lighting isn’t quite right…sorry.

Now I adhere my cute little owl and a quote using TCW9011 Matte Gel Medium. These come from a digital pack designed by a friend of mine, Annette for Michelle Grant Designs. You will find the link to it HERE.

I love that this gel medium is Matte so it means I can add paint or pencils or watercolor on top!

Now I begin to add color to the little owl…..layer upon layer of paint and then finish all the details by using Life of Colour Paint Pens.

I also add some stars to the background using TCW922 Ethereal Stencil. I wanted both shimmery white and gold stars.

For the Shimmery White stars I added white paint to a bit of TCW9012 Shimmery Goodness and then applied this using a spatula through the stencil in random spots on the page.

For the gold stars, I used TCW9036 Champagne Gold Modeling Paste and swiped this through the stencil using a spatula.

A few flicks of paint, a few scribbles and it’s done!!

quote over the moon reads sometimes you see things more clearly in the dark

I really love the overall effect and hope you do too. It has a real moody, nighttime feel.
