Sugar Daisy Rain Mixed Media Art Journal

Sugar Daisy Rain Mixed Media Art Journal by Renae Davis

I’ve been in a modeling paste mood lately and this layout did not disappoint in taming that desire. I originally was going for some soft peach and Prussian Blue vibes but this one evolved into something a little different (which did not disappoint either!)

The entire process is filmed on the video linked below and I including the highlight photos for the TCW products I used.

The Crafter’s Workshop provided me with some product to create this project. The opinions I share are solely my own.

I applied my focal image to the left page of the layout and applied TCW9007 Clear Gesso over the top to protect it from all the inky and mess goodness I was going to apply to the whole layout. I applied a layer of TCW 9001 White Gesso on the entire right side of the layout where I knew I was going to have heavy concentrations of ink and paint.

Along the edges of the layout, I applied a generous layer of TCW9005 White Modeling Paste with a palette knife through 12×12 TCW882 Fantasy Tile Stencil and let dry completely.

Once the modeling paste was dry, I spritz a combination of ColorSparx onto the layout and sprayed generously with water, blending the colors while keeping the darkest colors on the outside edges of the layout.

Once the watercolors were blended, I added some dark blue alcohol ink on top to help give it a more distressed look around the edges of the modeling paste. To provide darker tones for more contrast, I swiped over the edges with the nozzle of my blue acrylic ink spray. To highlight the modeled stencil design, I applied a rough layer of blue metallic gelato over the top.

The focal point of this layout is mostly orange so I sponged on orange acrylic paint through 12×12 TCW157 Flower Frenzy Stencil over the bare spaces of the middle of the layout and a few places around the focal to image to tie into the background.

I always have to have some sort of quote on my pages to summarize not only the layout but what I’m feeling in life at the moment… plus some orange butterfly stickers to bring in some of that orange around the layout.

Below are some close up images of the finished layout and the link to the process video!
