Hello Everyone, I’m back again to today to share with you all my newest project using a off the page MDF Phrase that was given to my as gift. I wanted to create something that can be useful and I decided to convert the phrase into an apron Hook for my craftroom.
This project is all about layers so please be preapred there are a lot of process photos but the process itself it quite simple. So lets get started!!
The Crafter’s Workshop provided me with some product to create this project. The opinions I share are solely my own.
I started by giving the mdf board a light standing using fine sandpaper. I then covered it with TCW9016 Heavy Body Acrylic Paint – Spun Sugar using a paint brush. I decided to use paint instead of using white gesso because I wanted the rawness of the mdf to come through the paint which will add texture.
Once the paint was dry, I then mixed TCW9016 Heavy Body Acrylic Paint – Spun Sugar and TCW9023 Blue Jellybean Heavy Body Acrylic Paint together and using a dry brush applied to the the board.
I wanted to create a more worn look so I used a wide dry brush to apply some more Spun Sugar acrylic paint and then added some highlights using Nuvo Embellishment Mousse in 3 colours – Powder Blue, Aquamarine and Pacific Blue. As you can see I’m using my finger to rub randomly onto the MDF board.
Next I mixed some Distress Spray Stain – Weathered Wood with TCW9008 Clear Modeling Paste. Using the TCW742s Hard Textures stencil, I applied my coloured modeling paste through the woodgrain section using an old gift card.
I used my heat tool to dry the modeling paste and then lightly brushed my Faded Jeans Distress Ink Pad over the stenciled areas to add some depth. I then used my finger to again rub over the board using some gold texture paste. Next I sprayed all over using Prima Color Bloom Spray Soft Teal and heat set it.
I felt there was something else it needed to finish off the worn look, so I added some Prima Art Alchemy Bronze Age Wax using my finger to just highlight certain areas.
Then to finish it off I curled some metal oval embellishments to create hooks and adhered them to the back of the board using a hot glue gun. And finally I sprayed some white and gold twine with Prima Color Bloom Spray Worn Leather and tied this to the board so I can hang on my wall.
