The Crafter’s Workshop’s new 2017 Mixed Media Goodies arrived recently and I was thrilled to discover the Black Modeling Paste! I love, LOVE modeling paste and now we have four fun varieties to play with!
The Crafter’s Workshop provided me with some product to create this project. This post also contains affiliate links. The opinions I share are solely my own.
I am currently participating in a fun art challenge started by our own Tori Weyers where we all create a little art each day following a prompt. It was the perfect opportunity to try out the new black modeling paste, a few of the fabulous heavy body acrylic paints AND a new stencil (Party Lights)!
The prompt I was following was the word “balloon”. With a little outside the box thinking, I flipped the Party Lights stencil upside down and found a few hot air balloons! After applying a base layer of Blue Jellybean paint to my page, I added three balloons with the black modeling paste.
I did have to do them one at a time, letting each one dry. However, I didn’t go super thick with the modeling paste, so the dry time was pretty quick.
This next step was definitely an experiment! I added different paints over the modeling paste to see what stuck and what resisted. Thin layers of watercolor didn’t really stick but of course, acrylics covered up the black right away.
To bring back the black color of the modeling paste, I replaced the stencil over the balloon and added black acrylic paint with a cosmetic sponge. I also had added in a few details with a white paint pen.
Of course, I had to continue my fun with more modeling paste! Nothing says clouds more than the words “Light and Fluffy”! So I added a few to my balloons for a touch more dimension.
This mini art journal page has the best texture now! And a fun design! Do you like adding modeling paste into your artwork? Which one of the four kinds do you like best…regular modeling paste, clear modeling paste, black modeling paste or light & fluffy modeling paste? Let us know below!
Thanks for joining me today…
