I should mention before I start that The Crafter’s Workshop provided me with some product to create this project. This post might contain affiliate links. However the opinions and the stenciling techniques I share are solely my own.

Gelli plate print as base for your stencil project.

As the base for my project I used one of my gelli plate prints, using a variety of stencils from The Crafter’s Workshop. This gelli print was  made on 300grams (24 x30cm) watercolour paper.

The stencil that I used is TCW583 “Kitties” , designed by Carmen Medlin for The Crafter’s Workshop.

Gorgeous cat stencil

I used black Americana Craft paint and a sponge dabber to stencil the cat.

Add some translucent paints to background

Now choose 2 to 3 colours of translucent paint to cover your background. I used High Flow acrylics from Golden, if you don’t have it….just add some matt medium or airbrush medium  to any acrylics and you will achieve the same translucent look. Remember: only cover the space outside of the stenciled area.

Cat in vibrant colours

You can add some highlights to you cat’s eyes with a white gelly roll pen.

Stenciled cat

With DecoArts Dazzling Metallics I added some highlights on the cat and the yarn.

I wanted some more highlights in the background, so I  finished my project off by stenciling White Americana paint through the  TCW267 “stencil ledger”, designed by Jaime Echt for The Crafter’s Workshop.
