Welcome back artsy friends! Today I have a fun mixed media tag tutorial to share with you all. Let’s get right to it!
What I like most about this tag is that it uses some simple tried and true (to me!) techniques that can lead to unique results each time.
First step – gesso and paint the tag. Pick 3 colors that look good together and won’t create “mud” if mixed.
Today I used a teal, blue, and lime green paint combo. I sprayed the tag with water before dipping it into the paints. This makes it look marbled… I love that!
Second step – use a background stencil with some paint. I used my TCW Ledger stencil with white acrylic paint.
Third step – I have recently become very fond of Translucent Texture Paste. It’s like a clear modeling that adds texture without covering everything up. For this step I used TCW Rug stencil.
Fourth step – let the paste dry completely before adding a secondary focal point stencil. For my tag I consider the anchor to be the main focal image, and the ‘explore’ text to be second. I used TCW Winged Exploration with matte black paint to make it stand out.
Final step! On a separate piece of cardstock I placed modeling paste over the large anchor image from TCW Nautical Chains. Once it was completely dry, I colored the image with some purple and blue paints. Then I fussy cut it to add to the tag. All done!
Thanks for joining me today! I hope some of these simple ideas will be useful the next time you’re playing and making some tags.
