Creating Custom Pattern Papers

Welcome back, creatives! This is Rachel joining you today to share some ideas for creating your own pattern papers using The Crafter’s Workshop stencils.

I was in a very colorful and watercolor-y mood, as you can see! For all the papers you’ll see today, I started with white cardstock that I applied a thin layer of gesso over, and let it dry. I did this so I could use my watercolor pencils and not warp the paper.

My first pattern paper was a big 12×12 sheet paired with the 12″x12″ Stepping Stones stencil. I grabbed 4 colors of pencil and just started filling in the squares. I find projects like this are very therapeutic and relaxing, especially during a stressful week! Once I finished coloring my squares, I painted them in with water to activate the pencil pigment.

I think the one above is my favorite custom pattern paper I created. The Blazonry stencil has great repetitive pattern with large openings, which was great for watercoloring.

Now THIS one holds a special place in my heart! The TCW “Bricks” 6×6 stencil is the FIRST stencil that I ever purchased. Ever. I don’t even know how many years ago. It’s an oldie but goodie and I just had to show it some love for this project.

My final little pattern paper strip uses just a bottom circle pattern that caught my eye in the Pebble Art stencil. I decided to use cooler colors since the others were so pink and orange.

Now that I have all of these pattern papers I needed to make something with them! I decided to create a scrapbook page, but you could use them for cards, tags, or for collage bits in your journal.

I tied the page together by adding gold paint through the patterns in the Screen Print stencil. My page is: Deep Thoughts by Meeko 🙂

Thank you so much for joining me in my pattern paper play! I hope you got inspired to create some of your own 🙂
