A “Peace” of Art: A Stenciled Picture Frame

Hello Karenliz here. I’m so excited to show you how I took a picture frame and turned it into a piece of art.

I’m guilty of seeing a great picture frame, buying it and then never using it. Do you do that? Why use them for a picture when you can turn it into something special.

I used the following stencils:
TCW541s Mini Believe Script
TCW527s Mini Word Association
TCW506s Mini Stepping Stones

I found a 5×5 silver box frame and took it apart. It has two mats plus I added a piece of watercolor paper for the background.  I used heavy bodied black paint though the Mini Believe Script stencil to add it to the watercolor paper. On each mat I used the Mini Stepping Stones stencil and gel medium.

Karenliz_TCWDT_PicFrame1You can use your favorite colors of acrylic paints for the next step. I’m using yellow, orange, pink, black and silver. I watered down my colors and added them to the back ground and the mats just like they were watercolors. To help spread the color I sprayed the background and mats with water first. I then used the Word Association stencil and Imagine Crafts Silver Metallic Medium to add the word Peace.

I splatted the black paint here and there. I didn’t want to over power the piece. Once everything was dry, I added the stamped image (Small Face Frame- HamptonArt) and the glittered medal wings.

How does it look? I love it. So pull out your box of picture frames and start creating small pieces of art for your friends and family.

Thanks so much for stopping by!
