Stenciled Handbag Clutch

Hello there!  Jenni here today to share a project with you using stencils to make a fun accessory, gift or perfect place for some crafty tools! 🙂

The Crafter’s Workshop provided me with some product to create this project. The opinions I share are solely my own.

I bought a couple canvas clutch style bags from my local craft store for $2 a piece, on sale!  I used fabric paint, but acrylics would have worked just as well, especially with this type of accessory, not necessarily being washed.  I also planned to use a couple of the colored Gessos.I chose a few stencils with larger floral patterns, something that would allow me to get a good gradient color across the stencil.I used painters tap to adhere the bag to my craft mat as well as leave a border.  I even folded up tape underneath the larger parts of the stencil to make sure I got a clear impression.  I also used a stiff stencil brush and pounced the paint directly from above, being careful not to get the paint too thick or under the stencil.Working from left to right and darkest to lightest, I overlapped the paint colors.  After the first layer had dried, I added some of this glittered copper molding paste.  I also added a tiny bird in Black Gesso to the corner of this side.I used a different stencil on the handle and added accents of the Black Gesso. The second bag, I decided to paint both sides.  Slipping a couple pieces of cardboard into the bag, so it wouldn’t bleed through, I added a solid background using the Gold Gesso.  Once it dried, I added this heart stencil on top, again gradating the paint hues. After a quick drying period, I stenciled the word ‘AMOR’ in the bottom corner, using the Black Gesso, going back over the heart in the letter ‘O’ with red. After the first side dried, I used this 6×9 stencil, which turned out the be the perfect size!  I repeated the same techniques I used before, adding a little of the glitter paste for definition.I think this could make a great party favor or gift with limitless possibilities!  And it is the perfect size for a little purse, a large pencil case or storage for crafty tools on the go, pens, brushes, washi…?!

After fighting my daughter for this one, I am going to use it for storing my Instax printer and extra paper cartridges along with my traveler’s notebook…it is a fantastic size!
