November is the month for art journalers to try their hand at NaNoJouMo or National Nonstop Journaling Month. You can read more about it here. I decided that timing was not the best for me this month to join in but felt that I could certainly find 15 minutes to work in my art journal this weekend!
Then I thought, why not use stencils that I had my husband pick out so I stayed away from the ones I always gravitate to. And, oh yeah! Let’s video the whole thing so you can watch!
So here it is in time lapse for you to enjoy…
I started with a page in my Dylusions journal that I had used to catch leftover paint from making other stenciling projects.
I didn’t use all of the stencils my husband chose, mostly because of time. 15 minutes can fly by! But here are the ones I did use: Mini Many Faces, Mini Stepping Stones, Mini Shattered Triangles, Square Scrolls and Ravenscape.
The Many Faces stencil was used on a piece of underpaper ahead of time.
I did go over the 15 minutes by a minute so I could add my wording and a couple extra highlights. But it was worth it as it made my page feel complete to me.
If you have never tried art journaling or sketching with a set amount of time, try it! I do start out with a general idea of colors and supplies just so they are surrounding me on my art table and within easy reach. However, the timer forces you to react and not think so much about each step. I find it very freeing! How about you?
Thanks for joining me today!

Anytime I start to art journal I get overwhelmed with possibilities and end up with nothing. Next time I’m going to try timing myself, it’s a great idea!
Erin, the timing definitely cuts down the what if, what now stuff! You can always go back to it later but you might find you just love what happened in 15 minutes.
Amazing…love the process and love your colours!!!
Thanks so much, Leeann!
