Art Journal Explosion!

Hey there creative souls. Tammy (aka Arty Tambarambaa) here and today I am sharing a very colorful Art Journal page with you today……

TCW provided me with amazing goodies to play with, but the art and the ideas are solely mine.

As well as being an explosion of color, I really wish that you could see the shimmer and shine! No matter how many photos I took, I just couldn’t capture it. Those stencil butters add the most gorgeous sheen, trust me!

Let’s get started…..

I felt like playing in one of my junk journals. I just love these so much. Completely made out of bits and pieces from around my home – scrapbook paper, bills, kids old school books, old calendars – basically, any piece of paper heading for the recycle bin. Talk about recycling at it’s best! I also love that the pages are all different sizes, and that other pages peek through the layers.

Anyway! So begin by adding a coat of TCW9001 White Gesso to your page. Then gather some stencil butters in a few of your fave colors.

I begin with the lightest color – TCW9067 Gamboge, and simply apply it with my fingers in 3 sections across the page. Using your fingers is so sensory. I love the feeling of those smooth butters, and using fingers makes it super easy to blend.

I then added TCW9063 Ocean Blue, followed by TCW9065 Fuchsia. I just love the blending and the new colors that pop out! Just magic.

Finally I added TCW9066 Orchid and then little splashes of TCW9091 Barn Door.

Now it’s time to have some fun with your stencils……

Firstly I began by adding color through the stencil with a makeup sponge, again using the stencil butter colors already on the page.

I began with Fuchsia and stencil TCW988 Leafy Collage, focusing around a couple of the edges and then followed this with TCW2341 Slimline Random Bubbles stencil and Ocean Blue.

I also added some TCW9002 Black gesso through one of my all time fave stencils TCW945 Starflower Net.

As the black is quite strong, I focused it mainly around the edge coming in. Although strong, black is a neutral so it ‘pulls’ everything together.

I also add to these areas using the same stencil and black gesso, but my other ‘go to’ way to use stencils. I pop down a touch of black, and then working quickly, whilst still wet, I lay down the stencil and remove some of the paint with a wet baby wipe through the stencil.

Sorry I forgot to take a pic of the process, but here’s the finished result……

Now it’s time to add a focal point to the page. For this I used some images that I created myself – YES I hand drew this Frida inspired girl and the flowers. They are actually available via Michelle Grant Designs – they are a download and print option. So you just need some time to fussy cut them out. Simples. Oh and the quote is from there too.

Once cut, I adhered them to my page with TCW9011 Matte Gel Medium and then I added the cutest little branch stamp from TCW2203 Missing You Stamp Set.

There you have it!

and here’s a few close ups….. (I was really hoping to capture that sheen, but unfortunately it hides as soon as the camera comes out)

Thankyou so much for being here with me today. I hope I have inspired you in some way.

Wishing you love, color and art time.
