Happy Friday! Today I have two new stencils to show designed by Julie Fei-Fan Balzer. I love Julie’s stencils because they are fun, bold designs, very creative, great for backgrounds and layering.
The new and old stencils I used for this project:
The Crafters Workshop provided me with stencils and mediums to create this project. The opinions I share are solely my own because I do love to use them.
When I receive new stencils from TCW I always start out with using tags. Tags are great surface to work with plus they are small. You can always use them in art journals or any other project you choose. You can leave them whole or cut them up.
On tag I started out by using some painted dictionary paper using TCW807 Script Dot stencil. To add it to the tag I used TCW Matte Gel Medium to the tag, attached it to the paper, and cut off the excess. I would say 85% of all my black and white painted papers are created using black spray paint. No particular brand only what’s on sale.
Next I added the new Rows of Lines stencil with white paint.
I turned the stencil around and added it again in turquoise.
Next using paint in black and florescent pink I added the new X Trail stencil. I cut a two squares out of paper bits and added the stencil to that to look like a little map.
To finish my play with these new stencils, I decided to try something I’ve never done. Stitched! I followed the design of the stencil to stitch the X’s in the design and continued on the edge of the tag. I actually loved doing it. I now need to find more thread!!!
I painted the string because you can paint anything right? Here is my tag. It was fun to create and I’m loving the black and white with a pop of color.
Creating small you can play with both the 6×6 or 12×12 sizes. Just because the substrate is small doesn’t mean you only use a small stencil. The large stencils can give you great impact on a small project. I used both sizes on this tag.
