Art Journal Page – Love Cats

Hello TCW crafters!

Hard COVID lockdown for the last 7 weeks here in Sydney … home-schooling, work from home etc… My brood of 5 are all fine thankfully but maybe sending me a little stir-crazy! So today it is with gratitude (and noise cancelling headphones!) that I sit to create a Love Cats art journal page to share a little bit of The Crafter’s Workshop inspiration for you.

The Crafter’s Workshop provided me with some product to create this project. The opinions I share are solely my own

The Crafter’s Workshop product used within this page

If you enjoy seeing a page come together quickly, you can just go ahead and watch the process video below. Captions within the video will tell you what products I have used along the way.

…here is how the page came together step-by-step…

1 – Begin with TCW834 – Stone Increase with with some gloss sprays or spray inks. I spray onto the stencil and then stamp the stencil off onto a blank page. I do this onto both sides of the journal page and use loose paper underneath my stencils when spraying… we can use this paper later.

2 – Next I grab TCW737 – Love Sonnet and stencil through with turquoise acrylic paint onto the left and right edges of the journal spread

3 – Grab the sprayed underpapers and cut out one short cat and one tall cat shape. Keep the cat shapes pretty simple. Draw an outline around each cat and add some simple features (eyes, nose and mouth)

4 – TCW792 – Micro Dots is next, to add some darker blue acrylic dots to the page

5 – I use a really large watery brush with my large pan watercolours and edge the pages with deep pinks and purples

6 – I spend a little more time on the faces and add some mark making to give texture to their fur. I faff about here until I am happy. Cheeks are added and shading to the edges and features.

7 – I again grab TCW737 – Love Sonnet and mask off the word “LOVE”. I grab TCW9064 – Turquoise Stencil Butter and stencil through this one single word to make it stand out and add some sheen.

8 -Remembering the masking technique that I demonstrated in a previous video, I cut out a heart mask and place it over black paper. Using TCW756 – Magic Ladder I stencil through the stencil and the mask onto the black paper with TCW9064 – Turquoise Stencil Butter. I cut out the hearts and arrange them on the page

9 – I adhere the cats, the hearts and some words to the page. I trace around the word “LOVE” to add a black border to bring the word out a little… Done!

I do hope you have enjoyed this walk through of my page and the video. Hopefully it gives you some inspiration to create your own…

Enjoy!
