How I Created a 3D Flower with TCW Modeling Paste

When you create your art do you ask what if? That’s what I did when I created this rose. What if I use modeling paste and try to create something 3D?

Let me start by telling you what I used to create it.

The Crafters Workshop provided me with stencils and mediums to create this project. The opinions I share are solely my own because I do love to use them.

On a piece of deli paper (you can use any lightweight paper) I added the Rose stencil with Light & Fluffy Modeling Paste and put it aside to dry.

I added the Flower Dance stencil to a piece of cardstock with various shades of green and yellow.

When the paint dried, I cut them out of the paper. Now I have lots of vines and leaves for my roses.

I painted the mixed media board with white paint and added some collage pieces. I set it aside to dry and started to work on my rose. I cut out three roses from the deli paper. To make it 3D, I cut out the individual petals and tried to add a tiny fold in the petal. That fold is what I used to glue it to the other large rose.

I used gel medium to attach the petals and create a dimensional rose. I didn’t use all the pieces since this was an experiment I wanted to see the end result as fast as possible.

The yellow around the edges is because I don’t clean my stencils. I wanted to keep it white so I painted the whole thing in paint and added a little pink to the edges. When you rewet Light & Fluffy Modeling Paste, paint will soak back into it. I only added paint around the edges.

To finish the piece I added the leaves, vines and the third rose to the board with gel medium.

I added some gel medium to the back of my 3D rose to finish it.

There are number of things I would do differently. I might paint the deli paper first, color the modeling paste, and maybe even use more than one modeling paste rose to create a 3D effect. It still was a great experiment.

If you try to create a 3D rose, we would love to see it. Please share it with us on our Facebook pageInstagram, Twitter, and Pinterest using hashtag #tcwstencillove.

Thank you so much for stopping by!
