TCW provided me with some awesome goodies to play with but the art and opinions are solely my own.

Lots of rainbow colors and black and white

Just love the pops of color combined with the black and white…… so let’s take a look at how it developed.

I’ve been enjoying just playing with layers lately with my stencils…..just adding color and picking up whatever stencils are on my desk to create beautiful backgrounds. It’s really simple and really relaxing and you can achieve such varied results just by changing your color combo’s.

I begin by grabbing my Black Square Dylusions Journal. I added Dylusions paints all over the surface using my fingers and circular motions.

The colors are totally different on a black backgound compared to white. So fun to experiment.

Once dry I begin picking up stencils and using the same paint colors as the background, I lay down the stencils quite randomly and begin sponging the paint through the stencils using a make up sponge.

adding patterns with honeycomb and circle stencil

I begin with TCW219 Punchinella using both the honeycomb and circle sections.

Some of the color combos are beautiful – look at that aqua on the lime!

I then used TCW5016 Quattrefoil and TCW886 Shape Landscape.

It’s essential to add in some white and some black – it helps all the other colors pop. I love using TCW384 Well Rounded for this as the mark making that the stencil leaves looks quite artsy and painty.

adding black and white to all the colors using stencils

Now that the background is complete, I grabbed a large floral stencil TCW929 Felicia Daisy and laid it over the center of my page. I then used TCW9002 Black Gesso and a makeup sponge to apply paint through the stencil.

When I got to the edges of the stencil, I began sponging more gently to create a soft line rather than a really defined one.

Look at that magic when you lift up the stencil!!! Boom!!

I add in some white using a white paint pen by Life of Colour. I go around the edge of the flower, adding a few doodles here and there.

Once dry, I add a few flicks of white paint, then a quote using TCW9011 Matte Gel Medium and call it done!!

quote added "never assume loud is strong and quiet is weak"

When you have such a gorgeous stencil, you really don’t need much more.

I love searching for all those colors and shapes underneath the black.

It really POPS!!

That’s it from me today. I hope it has inspired you to go create – why not lose yourself in adding layers with your stencils? Or create on a black background – if you don’t have a black journal you can always apply black gesso to your page first.

Don’t forget to tag us by using #tcwstencillove as we’d love to see what you create with The Crafter’s Workshop products.

You can follow me on Instagram for daily pops of color. I share my art there regularly.
