The Earth without Art – Art Journal Page

Hello creative souls. Tammy (aka Tambarambaa) here again to share a recent Art Journal Page with you all.

This one just kinda grew, I really had no plan – you’ll see what I mean in the instructions below.

TCW provided me with some awesome goodies to play with but the art and the design are my own.

I began with a page that I had started a while ago, but had put to the side. I had a few acrylic paint colours down, and that’s about it.

So I went in with the stencil TCW886 Shape Landscape and some white paint, and sponged some through the circle sections using a makeup sponge.

At this point, I had no clue where I was going, so I made a bold decision, I applied TCW9002 Black Gesso with a brayer.

I also added lots of background stencil work, I again used stencil TCW886 Shape Landscape , but this time focused on the stripes and a deep blue paint.

I then added some hot pink flower centers using TCW929 Felicia Daisy.

I then decided applied some TCW9001 White Gesso with a brayer, to see if this would lift it.

At this point, I still had no clue where it was going so I decided to add more colors and more stencils – let’s get that background really happening!

Firstly, I applied purple paint, and then whilst still wet, lay down TCW219 Punchinella and removed paint through the stencil using a wet baby wipe, focusing on the hexagon shapes.

I then added a midnight blue paint by sponging it through stencil TCW219 Punchinella using a makeup sponge, this time using he circular shapes.

Finally I used stencil TCW929 Felicia Daisy and sponged hot pink paint through it in various sections. I was quite random with all these steps, just using parts of each stencil, not the whole entire stencil.

You will be left with something similar to this!

I then added some yellow paint and aqua paint, just using my fingers in random parts – it had suddenly got very dark, and I wanted to lighten it a little.

I then grabbbed stamp TCW2202 Love You Flowers and some white paper napkins and stamped some of those gorgeous florals onto the napkin using Archival Black Ink.

Time to roughly tear around the edges. A trick here is to add water to a brush and apply it around the stamps, where you want it to tear, it then follows that path!!

I then adhered them randomly across the page (more towards the center) using TCW9011 Matte Gel Medium.

Suddenly, the magic was beginning to appear – see if you keep pushing it will happen, it always comes – the trick is to not give up! Just keep layering.

Now I had the idea to delete some of the background and give this some circular focal point. I grabbed stencil TCW926 Bubble Rebound , laid it over my page and traced lots of circles using a stabilo pencil.

Once done, I added some navy paint, and painted around the circles. I kept the paint reasonably thick around the circles, but lightened it off as I got towards the edges.

I love that the stencils peek through adding texture and interest and I love the sections with stamped images.

Now it reminds me of a galaxy. So let’s go with that!

Time to have some fun with some paint pens! I added in lots of outlines and scribbles around the circles, plus I added splatters and a few extra smaller circles.

Whoops – forgot about the title – Using stencil TCW686 Julie’s Words I selected the perfect saying, and added white gesso through it towards the top of the page for the title.

Ta da!! There you have it, my kind of galaxy!!

I hope this has given you some ideas for your next play. Why not create layer upon layer, or try stamping onto some napkins as part of your background?

Happy creating! Oh and don’t forget to tag us on social media by using #tcwstencillove so that we can see what you do.
