Tambarambaa’s Mixed Media Tags

Hello there creative peeps

Tammy here (aka Tambarambaa) to share my latest creation. This time I’ve done something a little different…..I’ve created 4 tags!

Four Art Journal Tags with mixed media background in gelato inspired colors with black and white stamped images

TCW provided me with some amazing goodies to play with but the ideas, the art and the opinions are solely my own.

So much fun to create, and for me they will make the cutest book marks!

Let’s take a look at how these were created….

I began with a sheet of mixed media white cardstock and just added colours I liked in a fairly random and quick way with a medium flat brush.

I completely covered the paper.

Hmmmmmm suddenly I’m feeling like icecream – those gelato inspired colors!!!

I then went to town with stencils!!

I selected the smaller sized stencils that had fine patterns on them, as I knew I wanted to cut this paper down into smaller sections and I wanted the pattern to be all over.

I laid down each stencil in random spots and using the same paint colors and a makeup sponge, I dabbed paint through the stencil.

adding small patterns with various stencils and paint

I began with stencil TCW382 Garden Gate. I then moved onto Stencil TCW539 Patterns. This one was PERFECT as it has so many different patterns on the one section and I was only working in small sections at a time.

I also added the small blossom shape from stencil TCW922 Ethereal.

After doing this with all the colors from the background, I then repeated using white paint. This step is really important as it kind of lifts all the other colors and to be honest turns it from a bit of a mess to something special!

I gathered a few of the NEW stamps as they are the PERFECT size for some tags.

I trimmed the background into 4 tags…

Now it’s time to add some pretties…. I settled on these stamps.

The Crafters workshop NEW stamps

I stamped various quotes and images from these stamps onto white cardstock using a black Archival Ink.

I then cut them out.

Now it’s time to create the tags. I decided each tag needed some black to go with the stamped images and quotes, so I used a different stencil for each one to add some black to the background.

adding black stencil marks to each tag

For the first one I used TCW456 Sketch Grid and sponged TCW9002 Black Gesso through the stencil using a makeup sponge over the entire tag. I love this look – a touch of grunge.

The second tag was created by using stencil TCW876 Screenview and again sponged black gesso through it in random areas.

For the third tag I used TCW2300 Gentle Leaves – one of the NEW Slimline Stencils. I just love that leaf design – this time I traced through the stencil with a black marker adding a few details to the leaves as I went.

For the final tag I used TCW202 Harlequin and again sponged black gesso through it.

I also added swipes of TCW9002 Black Gesso to the edges of my tags and then began to adhere the stamped images – I simply use a touch of TCW9011 Matte Gel Medium. It adheres really well and gives them a bit of height.

Whoops I’ve just realised I photographed them out of order. Above is Tag 2, Tag 3, Tag 4 and then Tag 1.

A few flicks of paint, a ribbon and they are done! Too cute!

4 individual tags - close ups

I really love the gelato color background teamed with the black and white. They POP!!

I’m excited as I have some left over background paper – I think they will make gorgeous flowers and I’m sure they will appear on a future project.

I hope this has inspired you to get creating today.

Perhaps you will make some tags or bookmarks? Or even try out a gelato inspired background or art journal page. If you’d like to see what else I am up to you can find me HERE.

We just love seeing what you create with the amazing products by The Crafters Workshop. Don’t forget to use the hashtag #tcwstencillove when you post them on social media so we can see them!

Much colorful love…… I’m off to eat icecream!
