Hello creative souls!

Tammy aka Tambarambaa is back today with another Art Journal Page. This one is a little bit grungy with a touch of shimmer and sheen from those amazing NEW Stencil Butters.

TCW provided me with some amazing goodies to play with but the art and the opinions are solely my own.

It contains one of my favorite quotes….. “Comparison is the thief of Joy”. Oh yes! This is true in all aspects of life, not just art. We really need to focus our energy on being who we are, instead of worrying about what others are doing. There is room for all of us to shine! Be Authentic. Be You. YOU do YOU.

Let’s take a look at how this one began…..

I applied TCW9001 White Gesso to my Large Dylusions Art Journal to seal it and allow the paper to take whatever I decide to throw at it.

I then chose a stencil that I recently acquired….. TCW346 Honeycomb. I really love this one…. it makes a fabulous background. This is how I used it today. I laid it down onto my art journal and concentrating through the center, I used a makeup sponge to dab some aqua paint through, lifting and moving as I went.

I made sure the pattern left behind wasn’t too ‘boxy’, I wanted the honeycomb to look like it was moving naturally across the page.

To some areas I added a touch of Turquoise paint, to give a bit of depth and to create light and shade.

I then grabbed out another stencil that is new to me – TCW554 Butterfly Collage. I adore this one – it has so many usable parts to it.

Firstly I went with the larger circle shape, and sponged some TCW9002 Black Gesso through it with a makeup sponge.

I then repeated this with some of the smaller circles – I just love how they look like paint splatters/marks….

Isn’t that cool!! Love love love this stencil.

I kept moving the smaller circles around and repeatedly sponging and I made sure some of the circles went off the edges of the page.

Notice that I left the top and bottom as white space – I concentrated the sponging through the centre.

I then added some paint flicks and once dry I felt it needed some more color – so I grabbed a few of the gorgeous NEW Stencil Butters. I chose TCW9067 Gamboge, TCW9065 Fuchsia and TCW9063 Ocean Blue.

Firstly I applied the TCW9065 Fuchsia Stencil Butter through stencil TCW456 Sketch Grid using a palette knife – this really added to the grungy feel, and who doesn’t love a splash of pink?!

I then added some of TCW9067 Gamboge by just swiping some on in sections with my finger.

Finally I added a few more of the smaller circles from stencil TCW554 Butterfly Collage using TCW9063 Ocean Blue and a palette knife.

The sheen is just beautiful!!

Now to add a focal point I grabbed some white mixed media cardstock and sponged TCW9002 Black Gesso through the two butterflies in that awesome stencil TCW554 Butterfly Collage. I did this for two large and 4 small butterflies.

Once dry, I cut them out and folded the wings up leaving a small flat strip at the body. I then adhered them to my page using TCW9011 Matte Gel medium – just a touch down that body does the trick!

I layered them by adding two of each on top of each other. This gives them real dimension and really creates the illusion of them taking flight.

I placed them on my page at different angles and made sure the larger one was at the focal point. This again gives the page movement, and draws the eye in.

The final step is to add my title and journaling. I used TCW686 Julie’s Words and used the section ‘Comparison is the thief of Joy’.

I decided to mix it up a little, so I covered up the ‘joy’ with washi tape, lay it down on my page and then sponged TCW9002 Black Gesso through the top part of the quote. Once dry, I removed the washi and this time used it to cover up the ‘comparison is the thief of’ section. Now I add TCW9063 Ocean Blue Stencil Butter through the joy section using a palette knife.

Love this effect!

A bit of journaling and a few scribbles and that is it!
