Creating Layers and Layers of Color

Happy Friday. Today I’m going to show you how I created all the layers of colors of this piece. I used the following stencils and mediums.

  • TCW9053 6×6 Mixed Media Board
  • TCW9004 Light & Fluffy Modeling Paste
  • TCW515 Pinecones
  • TCW9052 Super Thick Gel Medium

The Crafters Workshop provided me with stencils and mediums to create this project. The opinions I share are solely my own because I do love to use them.

Layers of color

My favorite medium is TCW’s Light & Fluffy Modeling paste. Just like its name it’s light and fluffy, bright white and it’s super absorbent. I decided to see how many layers of colors I could get the modeling paste to absorb.

First I took a mixed media board and added the Pinecones stencil to it with Light & Fluffy Modeling Paste. Next, I used some watered down paint and added it to the board. The modeling paste soaked up the color.

I changed my mind and decided to use the bright colors of distress oxide inks. I added the inks to the board and sprayed it will water. The modeling paste picked up the colors of the inks.

I added more of the stencil to the board, waited for it to dry, added more inks and sprayed it will water.

When all the layers and inks were added I sprayed it with water and let it dry. Look at all the layers of colors. I just love the way Light & Fluffy modeling paste sucks up the colors.

Since distress inks are water-reactive, I decided to add Super Thick Gel Medium on top to seal it. I added it with a palette knife instead of a brush because using a brush will move the color around.

When it dried you can still see all the layers and colors through the Super Thick Gel Medium.

Here is the finished piece. It looks like resin.
