Brave Rainbow Girl – Art Journal Page

Hi creative souls.

Tammy here again to share another girl in my Art Journal. I created a similar girl a while back, and this one uses ALL the colors, which is definitely ME and involves a slightly different process, so I thought I’d share it today.

Yes to ALL of the colors!!

TCW provided me with some awesome goodies to play with, but the opinions and creations are my own.

Let’s get stuck straight in…..

I by adding TCW9001 White Gesso to my large Dylusions Art Journal. Once dry I loosely sketched a face. I wanted her to be towards one edge, as I knew I wanted to add lots of gorgeous stencil work to her hair.

I then began working on different sections of hair with paint. I used Dylusions paints for this as I love their vibrancy. I applied ‘Crushed Grape’, ‘London Blue’ and ‘Funky Fuschia’ with a wide bristled flat brush.

I then came in with Dylusions paint in ‘Fresh Lime’ and ‘Lemon Zest’.

Once completely dry, it’s time to come in with those stencils.

For this step, I selected a stencil and then lay it over the hair. Using a sponge I dabbed some of the Dylusions paint over the top in sections. Be careful not to load too much paint onto your sponge – just a small amount!

I began with one of my most used stencils TCW450 Art Deco Leaves.

I repeated this step all over the hair, until completely covered. I used a variety of stencils including TCW5036 Flower Field, TCW876 Screen View, TCW882 Fantasy Tile, and TCW901 Geo Netting.

At this stage, it looks a little like a hot mess – but trust me it will come together!

Time to add in the face and neck details.

I left one eye not filled in as I knew I wanted to add some words to this section of her face……I will go back in and fill in the eye details once the words are there.

Next I dug out as many word stencils as I could find. I began with the largest one TCW585 Inspired Words. I lay it down over the missing eye section and sponged some black paint through the word ‘Brave’. I added the largest word first so I could then add the smaller ones around it.

I then used the ‘You’ from TCW5041 Thank You, the ‘love’ from TCW5043 I Love You, and the ‘be’ from TCW5044 Be Mine. I turned the stencils as I added the words – I wanted them to fit together like a crossword puzzle.

Finally I picked out a few words from TCW261 Art Is – I used ‘Art’, ‘feelings’, and ‘beauty’. I then added some white highlights with a white ‘Life of Colour’ paint pen around the words and a few word stickers filled in the gaps!

Once this was done, I went back in and completed the eye peeking through the words and also added lots of details to the hair using ‘Life of Colour’ black paint pens.

Keep adding details, have fun with some doodling, and add in white paint pens for spots and stripes.

White and black is the secret to using lots of different colors. It grounds them all, and adds the contrast that prevents it looking like a mess!

See – this really is the step that pulls it together, and allows the magic to happen.
