How I use My Favorite TCW Mediums

Happy Friday! I love all of TCW’s pastes and mediums but Jaime and her crew at The Crafters Workshop know I love their Light & Fluffy Modeling Paste and Gel Mediums. They are always on my art table ready to be used.

Gel Medium – I love the look of resin but I don’t want to fall down that rabbit hole and end of with tons of resin products that only get used once or my credit card is running away because I keep buying more. So what would be the next best thing to use…TCW Gloss Gel Medium!!! It dries crystal clear and it’s shiny like resin.

The Crafters Workshop provided me with stencils and mediums to create this project. The opinions I share are solely my own because I do love to use them.

For the background, I used the following, TCW834 Stone Increase, TCW807 Script Dots, TCW764 Dancing Leaves, TCW609 Curious Owl, TCW9054 Mixed Media Board, and TCW Color Sparx. I added the stencils to the background in various shades of blue, green, and white paint to make it look like the bottom of a river. I added the Script Dots stencil to the board with TCW9005 Modeling Paste. For the first layer of the gloss gel medium, I mixed it with TCW Color Sparx in blues, greens, and a little yellow. Color Sparx is transparent so it works perfectly for mixing color into the gel medium. The second and final layer was added on top of the leaves to look like they are wet.

Do the leaves look like they are floating in a river?

A river of leaves created with gloss gel medium.

Light & Fluffy Modeling Paste – Like its name, it is light and fluffy and can be easily used on cards, scrapbook pages, and other projects.

To color those leaves or any stencil design, I added with Light & Fluffy modeling paste to the background and let the modeling paste completely dry. These leaves sat for 3 days before I added color. This modeling paste is very porous so adding water helps the paint spread through the paste. I like to use a paintbrush to add water to the paste, wait for a second, then I add high flow acrylics, acrylic inks, or watered down acrylic paint. Watch what happens in this short video clip.

I hope you enjoyed my experiment with the gel medium to create faux resin and don’t you love how the paint spreads through the modeling paste! If you try any of these techniques, share them with us on our Facebook pageInstagram, Twitter, and Pinterest using hashtag #tcwstencillove.

Thank you so much for stopping by!
