Home Decor Mixed Media Project

Hello everybody. Nicole here! Today I’m sharing a fun mixed media project I created. One of my favorite things to do is alter wood pieces! I just love the process of altering woodcrafts. It allows me to play with all of my mediums and just have fun! Most of the time, I have no idea what I’m doing… I just play. 🙂

Disclaimer: “The Crafter’s Workshop Provided me with product to create this project. The opinions I share are solely my own.”

You might be thinking this was hard to make. It really wasn’t! Let me share my process with you. It’s the same process I used when I altered the Globe!

To begin, I coated the house with White Gesso.

Once the gesso was completely dry, I used a palette knife and Clear Modeling Paste over the TCW729 City Buildings Stencil to create a variety of “homes”.

I used a heat gun to speed up the drying time of the Clear Modeling Paste. I’m impatient… I don’t like to wait too long to get messy. 🙂

Once the Clear Modeling Paste was completely dry, I painted the house and other pieces with yellow acrylic paint.

Then I used my fingers to smear on additional colors. I like using my fingers because I’m able to control how much paint goes onto the project! A little dot of paint goes a long way!

I repeated this process using different colors until I was happy with the colors!

I used a tiny paint brush to outline the houses and windows using white paint to bring out the details of the houses.

I used the TCW922S 6X6 Ethereal stencil to create the flowers on the “L” wood piece. Then I used the TCW177s Mini Cherry Blossoms 6X6 stencil to add the bird and some blossoms onto the heart using red ink and a blending brush.

I used the Matte Gel Medium to glue the wooden pieces and embellishments onto the house and let it dry overnight.

And here it is! I love these colors together. It’s so pretty and it looks great on my scrap desk next to the Globe I created a few months ago. I hope I inspired you on your visit today!
