Jelly Jellyfish Art Journal by Renae Davis

I love jellyfish. They’re among my favorite creatures besides the humpback whale and the manta ray. Since jellyfish aren’t exactly readily available to see in real life… I have no problem drawing and painting up as many as I can in my art journal!

The Crafter’s Workshop provided me with some product to create this project. The opinions I share are solely my own.

For the background, I sprayed a generous mix of Ranger Ink Tim Holtz’ Distress Oxide Spray in Wilted Violet and Mermaid Lagoon (a delish mix if you ask me!) onto my art journal page. I added spritzes of water as I went and a few droplets of each color on top once dry.

At the bottom of the page, I applied a very thin layer of TCW9002 Black Gesso through 12×12 TCW918 Seahorse Stencil with a makeup sponge.

For the focal point, I used TCW9005 White Modeling Paste through 12×12 TCW917 Jellyfish Stencil with a paint scraper.

I decided there wasn’t enough contrast for me for the jellyfish on the background. Using a blending tool, I blended layers of Memento Bahama Blue and Grape Jelly Ink over and around the jellyfish.

Since the modeling paste absorbed all the color from the ink, I went back over the modeling pasted jellyfish with Dr. Martin’s Bleed Proof White with a small paint brush.

A jelly is nothing without shimmer right? Bring in the TCW9012 Shimmery Goodness! The fact that the shimmer is not totally opaque and absorbs a little bit of the color underneath makes the jellyfish look semi-transparent.

For the final touches, I added some splashes of shimmer spray ink and some jellyfish and bubble stamps in blue and purple ink.

  1. Ohhh I love jellyfish too!!! Also these are my most favourite colours!! So yes, I absolutely LOVE this page 🙂 We have always get masses of jellyfish here in Northern Ireland if we get a hot summer, you can’t go in the sea and loads get washed up on the local beaches, you have to be very careful even walking on the beach as you can’t always see their tentacles. I think they are fascinating and could watch them for hours. If I ever win the lottery I would love to install a jellyfish tank in my house, just like a lit up tall a aquarium lol. xx
