The Crafter’s Workshop provided me with some product to create this project. The opinions I share are solely my own.

For the background, I painted a luscious mix of 3 acrylic colors in my black bound art journal: Liquitex Quinacridone Magenta and Deep Violet and Daler Rowney Fluid Marine Blue. I then added some fog like clouds with white acrylic paint using a cosmetic sponge.

Once the background was completed, I applied TCW9026 Champagne Gold Modeling Paste with a palette knife through the 12×12 TCW923 Celestial Sun Stencil. Some of the paste made it underneath the stencil because of the delicate cut-outs and being placed on an open book, but it’s not extremely noticeable in the finished product.

On the opposite side of the page and the surrounding space around the shimmering gold sun, I applied TCW9001 White Gesso through 12×12 TCW851 Dotted Rings Stencil with an additional layer of TCW9012 Shimmery Goodness on top. Shimmery Goodness dries translucent and I used the white gesso first as a base layer in order for the design to stand out more against the darker background.

On the white swatch across the opposite page of the sun using TCW9002 Black Gesso through the 6×6 TCW922 Ethereal Stencil with a cosmetic sponge, you can see a lovely text across the page. I love a layout that has a little bit of text on it because it draws the eye in. We tend to have an uncontrollable habit of reading and depicting text. I also used the 12×12 version of TCW922 Ethereal Stencil to add the same text (and stars) across the page using TCW9003 Gold Gesso and a cosmetic sponge. (oops – I did get a little heavy-handed with the gesso…remember to use more of a dry sponge technique for cleaner stenciling)

No galaxy page is complete without at least a couple of stars right? I applied TCW9010 Silver Gesso through 6×6 TCW5004 Star Shower Stencil using a cosmetic sponge over parts of the page that needed a little something extra. Some places of the background stood out a little more than I liked them too and these stars were the perfect touch.

For the final finishing touches, I surrounded the edges of the layout with a Heavy Body Purple Acrylic paint from Brea Reese topped with a thin line of TCW9003 Gold Gesso. Any remaining shimmering paints left on my work surface were diluted with water and splashed onto the layout. The gold splashes really unified the whole page!
