Dream – A Colorful Art Journal Page

Hi there creative souls!

Tammy here today and I’m sharing an art journal page which became an explosion of color! Color features in all my creations. The brighter the better. They just bring me so much joy!

TCW provided me with some awesome goodies to play with, but the opinions and creations are my own.

Let’s take a look at how this explosion happened!!!

I began by adding a layer of TCW9001 White Gesso to my large Dylusions Album.

I reached for TCW157 Flower Frenzy Stencil…….where I live we have had a particularly cold and long winter…..I’m craving spring so this stencil definitely was calling out to me. All those glorious flowers!! Ooops sidetracked – I also grabbed a couple of Dina Wakley Gloss Sprays.

I spritzed these through the stencil, a bit randomly but ensuring I had more on the sides and less in the center.

Note- I’m a bit lazy about cleaning my stencils when using paints, however when using those gloss sprays its essential. Place in water immediately.

Once dry, I began to add flowers using acrylic paints. I loaded some paint onto a sponge and dabbed it through sections of the stencil. For this part, ensure some of your flowers are partially off the page – this helps create movement and a more natural look.

I then added black paint – just through the center and on the outer edges…this helps draw the eye in, and provides a focal point. When working with color this is important, otherwise they eyes don’t know where to look – they become overwhelmed.

Whilst paint is wet, layer TCW219 Punchinella Stencil and wipe through the stencil with a wet baby wipe, removing some of the black paint. Love how those flowers and colors peek through those hexagons.

Once dry, I added some white acrylic paint back in through TCW261 Art Is Stencil. Adding white back in to all that color and black really helps the colors to brighten and ‘pop’

To create your title, do the same with TCW585 Inspired Words Stencil and white paint. I selected ‘dream’ as I had a quote that I wanted to use that worked perfectly with this.

I then added the quote with TCW9045 Matte Gel Medium.

Next I went to town adding in scribbles, journaling, and paint splatters…..

There you have it! A riot of color, and I’m feeling that bit closer to spring!

I hope this has inspired you today.
