Art Journal – Let down your hair

Hi there creative souls!

This is Tammy and I am thrilled to be invited onto the TCW Design Team. I’ve been a fan for years and use their products all the time in my arty projects, so this is a dream come true!

My first project is an Art Journal Page…..

TCW provided me with some awesome goodies to play with but the opinions and creations are my own.

I created this in my large Dyusions Journal, firstly adding a coat of TCW9001 White Gesso.

Once dry I sketched a face. I knew I wanted her to have flowing hair so I popped her over to one side and roughly added loose flowing hair.

I then gathered a few of my favorite stencils. I knew they’d be perfect for adding gorgeous texture to her flowing hair.

First I added Dylusions paint in ‘Cut Grass’. I painted a few sections of her hair, completely covering that section with the green paint. Then, working quickly whilst the paint was still wet, I lay down TCW450 Art Deco Leaves Stencil and wiped off paint through it with a wet wipe.

When you lift up the stencil you are left with a gorgeous print. So simple and yet so effective.

Once this color was dry, I repeated this process using TCW780 Botanical Dream and Dylusions paint in ‘Calypso Teal’.

I worked on different sections at a time, being careful not to overlap the colors too much. A little bit is fine as I add in details with markers later that tidy it all up and cover up any small sections.

I then created some sections of hair using TCW924 Lush Petals Stencil and Dylusions ‘Crushed Grape’. I really love how this stencil created movement within the strands of hair.

For the final colour I used Dylusions ‘After Midnight’ and TCW157 Flower Frenzy Stencil. Because we all need some flowers in our hair right?

Tip – make sure each paint color is dry before moving onto the next. This is really important, otherwise you will end up with a mess!

Tip – make sure you wipe off the back of your stencil before moving to the next section so you don’t accidently transfer any excess paint that has seeped through.

Now it’s time to paint in her face. I then add details using paint pens.

Keep building up the colours and adding in fine work for her hair. Lots of loose pen work really helps the hair to look flowy.

Love those gorgeous colors together!

I then used the circle section of TCW219 Punchinella Stencil to draw around a few of the circles to help me add some doodling to her hair. I then added some extra dots and a few stripes around these to finish it off. You can strategically place these doodles to cover up any blotches or parts that you aren’t as happy with.
