Hi everyone, Heidi here, today I’m on The Crafter’s Workshop Blog with a fun birthday card project. This is also my last project as a Design Team Member for The Crafter’s Workshop.

Step 1:
I started my project by die cutting a square panel two sizes smaller than my card base from watercolor paper. On this panel I blended some Distress Ink in “Tumbled Glass”, using a stencil brush (as you can see in the picture), starting at the bottom and working upwards, creating a nice smooth blend. I also applied some of this ink around the edges of the panel.
Step 2:
Next I taped of the seahorse image on the gorgeous The Crafter’s Worshop stencil called “Seahorse” (TCW918s), and placed it onto my panel. I took a green ink color from my stash (this is Versafine Ink in the color “Spanish Moss”) and applied this over the sea weed image using a stencil brush.
When done I replaced the stencil on the left hand side of my panel, but lower and also turning the stencil slightly to create a different look. Be careful to not go of the stencil with your ink on the right hand side, or tape of the edge of the stencil to prevent this mistake (you will otherwise create a harsh line of ink on your watercolor panel).
Step 3:
I stamped my sentiment, which is partly from the Your Next Stamp set called “Snorkel Fun Fishy”, in combination with the word “sending” from the Simon Says Stamp “Tiny Words” stamp set, using Archival “Jet Black” ink.
Next I took another The Crafter’s Workshop stencil called “Leafy Texture” (TCW733s), which turned sideways looks like waves and draw in some water ripples here and there, tracing the stencil with my pencil. Don’t push too hard otherwise it will be hard to lighten the lines later on.
After taking this picture I lightened the pencil lines using a kneaded eraser.
Now I’m painting in the water ripples using Lindy’s Stamp Gang Magical in “Azure Sea Asters” in combination with a small brush, making the color darker at the bottom (by adding more layers) and lighter at the top (by adding more water). Let dry well.
Later on I also decided to add some splatters using “Blue Silver” Finetec Pearl Colors. This will create some interesting elements in the background that look like air bubbles.
Step 4:
For my focal point I choose the fish image from the same Your Next Stamp stamp set that I used for the sentiment. I stamped the image onto Strathmore Bristol Smooth Surface paper using Versafine “Onyx Black” ink and I clear heat embossed afterwards, this way the lines stay black and crisp.
I colored the image using Lindy’s Stamp Gang Magicals in Azure Sea Asters, Orange Creamsicle, Mango Mania and Stormy Silver, in combination with water and a small brush.
When the coloring is done I added some highlights using a white Sakura Gelly Roll Pen.
Step 5:
Time to put my card project together: I die cut a slightly larger mat from some matching olive green cad stock and adhered both square panels together using liquid glue. This combination I adhered to a white linen textured card base using one millimetre thick foam tape. And to finish my card I now only have to adhere the funny fish image on top, also using one millimetre thick foam tape!
