Quick and Easy Cards with Stencilled Embossing

Hello everyone!

Robyn here, sharing a technique for creating a quick and easy pair of cards using a simple stencilling technique.

The Crafter’s Workshop provided me with some product to create this project. The opinions I share are solely my own.

We often think about using inks and sprays through our stencils, but they are great to use with embossing ink and embossing powders as well. The technique is a simple but effective one that gives lots of scope for different colours and textures. For this pair of cards, I have used clear embossing ink and powder but there is a myriad of coloured products on the market for you to try.

This technique requires you to think backwards a little to imagine what the effect might look like to assist with choosing appropriate stencils. I have chosen one with small openings, TCW853 Circle Tiles and another with larger openings, TCW924 Lush Petals. Smaller openings will give more room for you to add colour.

Start by placing your chosen stencil over watercolour cardstock and sponge with embossing ink. Depending on your ink pad, you may be able to apply the ink direct to paper without using a sponge. Carefully remove stencil and sprinkle with embossing powder then heat set.

Once the cardstock has cooled, paint with watercolour and watch the pattern appear!

I have repeated the above steps on a second piece of watercolour card and changed up the colours to a warmer palette and TCW853 Circle Tiles stencil. I also wet the cardstock a little before adding colour so the watercolours could run and blend.

To finish the cards, I layered them onto cardfronts and added simple sentiments.
