Cardboard Vase

Back in high school and college, I used to make hand built clay vases. While my husband is very supportive of my creative endeavors, I think rewiring the house to add a kiln might be a bit much. So, instead, I now make vases and boxes out of chipboard and cardboard and get creative to make them have the same sort of flavor.

For this project, I created a simple rectangular “box” with side slots for handles and a wider slot on the front for style interest.

The front and back is covered with covered with stenciled and sprayed TCW9051 Ken Oliver Watercolor Paper. The sidebar covered with corrugated sheets.

For the front and back covering, I stenciled TCW807 Script Dots with TCW9004 Light and Fluffy Modeling Paste. I added acrylic paint to the paste to give it a “Kraft” color. After the past dried, I added several matte and shimmery sprays for the desired effect.

The enhanced papers were then attached to the front and back of the “vase”.

To add a pop of accent color, I took the center panel from the front slot and trimmed it smaller. I covered it with TCW9001 White Gesso. I then added TCW773 Connected Dots with Light and Fluffy Modeling Paste again. The red color was added with paint and sprays.

To give this panel a floating feeling, a band of black yardstick was added to the inside top of the vase as well as along the bottom of the front slot.

To create a focal element on the front, I used TCW904 Petal Burst with TCW9038 Antique Gold Modeling Paste on acetate. after drying, I cut out the element to use on the vase. For a layered element, I used TCW 2116 Ancient Wheel with TCW 9036 Champagne Gold Modeling Paste. Again, I trimmed the element out of the acetate. These were then layered and attached to the front of the vase.

To finish the vase, I added rolled corrugated handles and feet to the base.

This was a fun and fast project that can be styled to coordinated with almost any decor.

Thanks for joining me today. The Crafters Workshop provided me with many of the products used on this project, opinions about those products are entirely my own.
