Background Spray Technique | Background

Welcome back crafty friends. Today I would like to share a technique with you that you might have seen before, but maybe forgotten about.

TCW Provided me with some goodies to play with, but the opinions and creations are my own.

You can watch the full process video here, and also see how the page turned out:

For this technique I like to work in a larger art journal with a large stencil. So I used a A4 journal with my 12 x 12 stencil.

Lay your stencil as flat as you can get it to your book. I am using TCW899 – Striped Mandala. Then spray with your favorite spray. I used the new Dina Wakley gloss spray in Eggplant.

Take the stencil, now covered in spray, and turn it face down, on your left page or on another project. Press on the stencil to get the spray to transfer to that page, almost like a stamp.

Next, grab a second color of spray. I used the Dina Wakley spray in Cheddar. Give it a good spray.

You could easily now print this on a third project and repeat the process, or you can take a print now, by laying a piece of paper over top of the stencil and taking that print, almost like a Gelli print. If you don’t want to, just skip this step and wash the stencil.

Now remove your stencil from your page, and you should see the pattern of the stencil in the two colors you sprayed.

Quick and easy way to get a really nice background.

So to recap, today we learned 3 ways to make a quick background.

  1. Spray through a stencil.
  2. Print from stencil and spray again.
  3. Print from stencil.

Which one will you try next?

Here is a peak at the full finished project:

I used TCW861 – Happy Dandelion for this project.

Thanks for joining me today.

Till next time friends 🙂
