Grandma’s Cat | Art Journal page

As if this COVID-19 thing wasn’t causing enough stress, I lost my Grandmother on the 1ste of May during lock down. Probably one of the hardest things I have had to deal with in many years.

My Gran left behind very little possessions in this world, but she did leave her cat. She called him Katalalas. (Cat-a-la-la-s) Its a silly made up name, but just speaks of her loving and silly yet caring nature.

I wanted to just share a simple page of my Gran’s cat today, the poor thing is so confused and heartbroken.

TCW Provided me with some goodies to play with, but the opinions and creations are my own.

You can watch the process video here:

I start out by brayering on some color to my smaller dyalog journal.

Photo of pink, blue and peach paint brayered onto the page in patches

I reach for TCW905 – Leaf Emblem, and sponge on a hot pink color to make the pattern background pop. I stencil on both pages, filling them up.

TIP: I like using 6 x 6 size stencils on my smaller journals, and the 12 x 12 in my larger journals. The pattern feels more in proportion to the page this way.

Now I will hand draw a simple cat shape, and then using white acrylic paint, paint around the cat shape and fade the harsh edges using a sponge.

Now add some details to the cat. I added some Stabilo all pencil and activated it with water, creating a shadow effect. I also added white Posca paint pen and some sharpy doodles and hearts to the cat.

I then wanted to finish the page with some words on the left side, and for this I grabbed TCW585 – Inspired Words and stenciled on the word “LOVE” multiple times. This one isn’t available at scrapbook.com anymore, but you could also use TCW567 – Mini Complicated Hearts.

This finishes up the page for today, super easy and simple, but I love how bold it feels.

I hope these pages, and Katalalas has inspired you to create today too.

Thanks for joining me today.

Till next time friends 🙂
