How I Create Layers and Layers

The best way to learn to create great multilayered backgrounds is to start small. I love to use manila tags. They are the perfect surface for lots of mediums.

The wonderful thing about TCW stencils is they come in two sizes 12×12 and 6×6 and for today I used TCW882 Fantasy Tile. To create layers and layers you’ll need both sizes. I also used TCW Black and White Gesso, a ball point pen, paint markers, acrylic paints, and TCW Modeling Paste.

I painted a tag using black and white gesso and dried it with a heat gun. Using the 6×6 Fantasy Tile stencil I added the design with a ball point pen.

Next I added the stencil stencil with acrylic paint and a white paint marker.

I added more of the design with pale pink paint. Another way to add layers is adding stencil designs and rubber stamps to tissue paper. When you add tissue paper to the tag with TCW Gel Medium it becomes translucent. Tissue paper is one of my favorite things to use for layering.

To add a pop of color I mixed paint with TCW Modeling Paste and used it through the 12×12 Fantasy Tile stencil.

To finish the stencil I added a few words.

Here is the finished tag.

Now it’s your turn to try to create wonderful layers. I can’t wait to see what you create. You can share it with us on our Facebook pageInstagram, Twitter, and Pinterest using hashtag #tcwstencillove.

Thank you so much for stopping by!
