Easy, Simple, & Quick Sympathy Cards with Stencils

Hi everyone! It’s Lindsay here with you today, from Crafting While Caffeinated Blog & YouTube Channel.

Making sympathy cards is hard for us all. I know I can easily overthink the process, from color choice, sentiments and what I write on the inside. Today, I want to share with you three easy, simple and quick sympathy cards that you can make with your stencils. Watch the video tutorial below for all the details!

Easy, Simple, and Quick Handmade Sympathy Cards

Some supplies used in the video above were sent to me free of charge for design purposes. I only design for companies I can stand behind 100%!!

Creating the Cards

Silhouette Stenciling

Silhouette stenciling is a great technique to make simple and quick sympathy cards that are elegant, but easy to mail.

Using the silhouette stenciling technique is an easy and quick way to create your sympathy cards. For more on the silhouette stenciling technique head HERE to learn all about it! Here I used the Birds & Butterflies stencil, which is perfect for this sympathy card.

Creating a Scene with Your Stencils

Making easy scenes with your stencils is another way to make easy and simple handmade sympathy cards. They are nice and flat so they are easy to mail.

This is such a great way to create easy sympathy cards that are nice and flat and easy to send through the mail. To learn more about creating scenes with your stencils and what tools make this such an easy technique, head HERE and watch the video tutorial! Here I used the Happy Dandelion stencil to create a quick scene for the background of my card. All that this card needed was a die cut sentiment for the final touch.

A Thinking of You Card

Making a handmade thinking of you card along with your sympathy card is a great way to have a card ready to send at a later date to let the recipient know you're still thinking of them.

Yes, I know this isn’t a sympathy card, but I thought I would share what I like to do when creating my sympathy cards. Along with the sympathy card, I also like to create a thinking of you card. It can match the sympathy card, but it doesn’t have to. This way, I have a card ready to send in a few weeks or a month. It’s a great way to brighten someone’s day and let them know they’re still in your thoughts!

For my thinking of you cards I like to add a little extra something, in this case I’m using the shine of the glitter paper. To highlight the die cut I used one of my favorite stencils from The Crafter’s Workshop – Plaid Fringe. All that was left was stamping the thinking of you sentiment to complete this card!

Tips & Tricks for Creating Sympathy Cards

  1. When making sympathy cards to keep in my stash, I never know if they are going to have to be mailed or if I can hand deliver them. I like to keep my handmade sympathy cards as flat as possible, with little to no dimension. One layer cards are always best for my needs.
  2. I also like to make my designs very clean and simple. I like the focus to be on the message and written note on the inside.
  3. Along with simplicity, the majority of my designs need to be quick. If I don’t have a card in my stash, I need to be able to create one as quickly as possible. This way my card is in the mail ASAP! I don’t make sympathy cards that require a lot of dry time or that have over intricate designs.
  4. And the final tip is creating a handmade Thinking of You card at the same time as creating the sympathy card. Again, it’s just nice to send this card a little later to remind the recipient you’re still thinking of them!

I hope you all found this post about creating easy, quick, and simple handmade sympathy card helpful and found some tips, tricks, and techniques you can use to help you in making your own cards!
