Respect Nature – a stenciled art journal page

Hello everyone!

Robyn here sharing an art journal page featuring stencilling with Distress Inks.

The Crafter’s Workshop provided me with some product to create this project. The opinions I share are solely my own.

I love the softness you can achieve on a background when using Distress Inks, the longer drying time allows for gradual blending to create interesting shifts in colour. They also layer beautifully over each other and this is the basic technique I have used for this page.

stencil page with orange ink through TCW873 Orb Mandala stencil

The page was started with a light sponging of pale yellow Distress Ink over all over the page. I then used a darker orange colour through the small TCW873 Orb Mandala stencil to create the pattern. Stencilling with a flat makeup brush style tool will help give a soft layer of colour that blends easily for an ombre effect.

I stencilled patter over the top right and bottom left-hand corners and then edged around the page with the orange ink.

Colour stamped flowers with watercolours and coloured pencils, then fussy cut

I stamped several flower images over watercolour cardstock using permanent black ink and then gave them a light wash of colour with watercolours. To deepen the colouring, I shaded parts of the images using Prismacolour pencils. The flowers were then fussy cut and layered over the bottom, right-hand corner of the page.

Add text die cut and outline with black dotted line

I found the perfect wording in one of the Art by Marlene die cut books so popped that onto the page towards the top, left-hand corner. To give the words some strength, I dotted a fine line around the letters using a Sakura Pigma Micron black pen.
