The Crafter’s Workshop makes a great range of mediums and I’ve been enjoying creating with my favourites in the kit of product sent to me, so I thought I’d share a project using the Gel Medium Gloss. I’m usually very careful about using highly glossy products in my art journals, I live in a humid climate so anything that can get sticky, usually will and I end up with ‘bricks’ instead of art journals! However, I’ve found the combination of using a loose-leaf art journal and TCW9006 Gel Medium Gloss a perfect match with no sticky pages in sight.

I started my page with an abstract, watercoloured background and made sure it was nice and dry before stencilling over the whole of the page using TCW9006 Gel Medium Gloss through the large TCW839 Wallflowers stencil. I love the subtle effect this gives to a page, the areas under the gel medium seem to intensify in colour beautifully. 

Once dry, I highlighted some areas of the page using Gelatos, making sure to smudge them well with my finger. Gelatos glide easily over the Gel Medium Gloss, colouring the spaces in-between the stenciled areas.

I used some tissue to wipe over the page and remove any excess Gelato colour on the stencilled areas. This gives a ‘cleaner’ look to the stencilled areas.

I enjoy using printed die cuts on a journal page but like to find ways to change them up a little where possible. A product that was new to me was the TCW9012 Shimmery Goodness – wow, this adds such a gorgeous shimmer! I painted it onto the wings of my little Art by Marlene flower fairy.

I love how this product paints on so easily, then dries fast to give a wonderful pearly shimmer. Clean-up is easy – a touch of soap under a running tap and brushes are clean again. 

I used a couple of Art by Marlene die cut leaves to embellish the top corner of the page. You might notice the centre is a single leaf and the second leaf was cut in half to form each side of the corner.

My fairy needed something substantial to stand on so a few torn strips of patterned paper grounded her nicely.

Of course, a fairy also need shimmery shoes! A little swish of TCW9012 Shimmery Goodness and she is ready to fly.

Another way to make a printed die-cut unique is to add a little doodling. A Sakura Gelly Roll makes this nice and easy, adding a touch of white to the fairy’s flower body.

My final touch was to add a printed and layered quote that sums up the mood of this page beautifully.
