Art Journal Page – Abstract Layers

paint, Dura-Lar, Vellum layered pages on book text
Layered Art Journal Page

So I have created something a little more abstract this time around. I was interested in creating texture and shapes using The Crafter’s Workshop stencils along with some Grafix Arts Plastics to create layers that would work within a journal

The Crafter’s Workshop provided me with some product to create this project. The opinions I share are solely my own

If you enjoy seeing a page come together quickly, you can just go ahead and watch the process video below. Captions within the video will tell you what products I have used along the way.

…here is how the page progressed…
I started with a page from my large Art by Marlene journal and a sheet of Dura-Lar wet media plastic

I stenciled TCW 862 Maiden Hair with TCW9002 – Black Gesso directly onto the Dura-Lar wet media plastic. It stenciled beautifully!

I then stenciled TCW852 – Ink Print and TCW826 – Garden Frame onto a vintage book page and glued it onto my journal page.

Next I randomly doodled and added paint in various ways. Drips, dots, marks, splats to create an overall background

I added gold leaf to the middle of the background page

The final focal point was created with Posca pen onto a sheet of Grafix Vellum. I cut these hand-drawn leaves out after adding some white sharpie marks, silver leaf & TCW/Ken Oliver Liquid metals – metallic sky

You can see how the layering of the page works within the journal with this small video…

I do hope you have enjoyed this walk through of my design. Hopefully it gives you some inspiration to try your own abstract layered journal page.

We would love to see your projects made with The Crafter’s Workshop products. Use #TCWstencillove with your project pictures.

Have a great day!
