Finished card for The Crafter's Workshop Happy and Blessed - Combining Modeling Pastes for a Different Look by Robyn Wood

I love using modeling paste on a variety of projects and this card features a combination of the beautifully matt Black Modeling Paste with Marcasite Silver Modeling Paste. I apply the second layer very thinly to give a gilded effect.

Tip: * A great way to add an extra bit of dimension to a stencilled area is to add an extra layer of colour – shimmery dark silver over black is a divine pairing.

Turquoise Ken Oliver Color Burst background

A started my card by creating a background panel using Turquoise Ken Oliver Color Burst powder and Metallic Quartz Ken Oliver Liquid Metals. I brushed the panel with a little clean water and dropped in a little turquoise powder and spread the colour over the panel with a brush. Before this dried, I added a few drips of metallic quartz and spread the colour around a little.

Once the panel was dry it had a delicious, sparkly effect – perfect for stencilling over!

Gilding black modeling paste with TCW Marcasite Silver paste

Using the TCW874 Poppy Grid stencil, I stencilled over the panel with TCW9009 Black Modeling Paste and set it aside to dry (don’t forget to clean your stencil right away and you will need it dry again for the next step).

Next I replaced the TCW874 Poppy Grid stencil back over the black stencilled area and carefully apply a very thin layer of TCW9043 Marcasite Silver Modeling Paste using the tip of my finger through the stencil. This resulted in a gilded type of effect.

Once everything was dry, I trimmed the panel to a size to suite my card design and inked around the edges with black ink. A couple of layers and a greeting and my card was complete.
