Layering Stencils 3 Ways

Hi everyone! It’s Lindsay, from Crafting While Caffeinated Blog & YouTube Channel, here with you today. I have three different projects to share with you and each one features a different way to layer your stencil to create fun and interesting background! I love finding new ways to stretch my stencils even further, and this is definitely one of those ways!

My first card is super simple and I only use inks to layer up the stencils. I started with the Stone Increase stencil (12 x 12) and ink blended a light purple ink through it onto a white cardstock panel. Then, leaving that stencil in place, I layered the Plaid Fringe stencil (6 x 6) over the top. I ink blended through both stencil with a darker purple ink for a tone on tone look! This is such a cool background and super easy to do! All together it takes less than then 5 minutes to pull this background together and maybe 15 minutes for the entire card!

My second card is a bit more complicated, but only in the sense I added in a little heat embossing. My first step was to ink blend the “background” again using inks and my make up blending brushes. Then, I removed that stencil and overlaid the Pineapple stencil and smooshed my Versamark ink pad through the stencil. After removing the stencil, I heat embossed with Metallic Berry MBoss to for a fun tone on tone look to the entire card design!

My third and final card is the most difficult, but I LOVE this effect! To start this background I used the 12 x 12 Follow Joy Stencil and positioned a large flower on the panel. Then I smooshed through Versamark Ink. For my first layer I used Champagne MBoss and I did two layers of embossing powder for a smoother look. After re-positioning the stencil I layered a wood grain stencil from the Cookie Stencil line over the top and using a sponge I smooshed through more Versamark. I used Copper MBoss for the second layer of embossing powder. I LOVE how this melts together and create such a solid image!

I should mention, too, don’t mix Cake & Cookie stencils with your normal stencils unless you are 100% sure you won’t be using them in any food projects!!

This is why I absolutely LOVE stencils! I only shared 3 different ways to layer your stencils, but there are so many more ways you could use this technique with different mediums! You could easily mix in a little modeling paste or acrylic paint for even more fun!
